I took down the last bits on Friday knowing some of them would go straight back next week 😂 but I think it’s important to do it with the children, for them to be a part of the process 🫶

The less things on the wall for me the better so making sure what I have up is relevant and used by the children is so important to me.

I want them to have ownership over their classroom ❤️

My first and potentially last ever tidy Friday 🤭 (I don’t work Fridays usually)

But finally the classroom is ready for my new littles to start next week! Deffo have a few more labels to add and there may be a window sill of doom hiding BUT it is ready and I hope they love it!

Correct me if I’m wrong 😂 but I do not have the skill set to take broken crates to beautiful under tuff tray storage and I am so glad we have a lovely care taker who does!!

I saw lots of people try this a while ago so here are my 5 (potentially controversial) things I don’t do as a Reception Teacher!

I don’t spend ages creating a themed role play area - for me the time and effort out weighs the gain! I prefer enhancements and open ended resources that can be used to be anything! If you love doing a themed role play then you absolutely should continue! It just isn’t for me!

I don’t stay quiet if I think something isn’t beneficial or developmentally appropriate - I just can’t do it, it hasn’t always ended well but if I don’t agree with something I need to say.

I don’t print things off to evidence learning - what’s the point? Who is it for? Who will benefit from it?

I don’t formalise learning to get them ‘ready’ for year one - this one has always been a huge bug bear of mine. Developmentally appropriate practice should not change, doing what’s right for the children should always be the most important thing and year one needs to get ready for the children they are getting, not the other way around!

I don’t force children to apologise - a forced apology is meaningless, it’s just words. Instead when the children is calm I ask them how they feel they can fix it, sometimes they say by saying sorry, but sometimes it’s by giving a hug, or tidying up, mending what they have broke. Then we check with the other child and ask if that would help them.

So do we think they’re controversial? Do you agree?

The second cupboard of doom and YES we had more treasure 🙌🏻
Half of this cupboard I had never looked in at all so I was very excited to find these!
tricky word log slices 🥰 they will definitely be coming out in my writing area!
And I cannot wait to do dinosaur set ups with those dinosaur bones 😍
How amazing! Have you done your cupboard of doom this summer? Or are you shutting the door and pretending it doesn’t exist 😆

All the advice I would give to an ECT about to start their first job! Including some super old photos 😂

The last one might be a bit niche 🙊😆

What would you add/change?
