Have you booked your spring Covid-19 Vaccine?

Eligibility for the Covid-19 vaccination this spring:

- Adults aged 75 years and over.
- Residents in a care home for older adults.
- Individuals aged 6 months and over who have a weakened immune system.

Those who are resident in care homes for older adults are also eligible. Carers and staff in care homes are not eligible, this is because the vaccination programme this spring is targeted towards providing protection to those most vulnerable to severe disease.

Norovirus can spread very easily.
If you catch it, stay at home until 2 days after symptoms stop.

Washing your hands frequently with soap and water is best way to stop is spreading. Alcohol hand gels do not kill norovirus.

The most important thing is to rest and have lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.

If your in discomfort take paracetamol. Check the leaflet before giving it to children.

Air Pollution ❗

Exposure to air pollution can increase cough and phlegm symptoms for adults, it is linked to increases in bronchitis and it can increase the risk of getting bacterial pneumonia.

There is a strong link between air pollution and the worsening of asthma symptoms and it also plays a part in causing asthma in some individuals.

Simple steps can have a big impact
on the air you breathe:

- Remember your inhaler – Watch for high forecast days and always have your inhaler to hand.

Make travel choices for cleaner air:

Use people power – Walk, cycle or take
public transport to work or work from
home if you can.

Make cleaner air decisions in the home:

Ventilate your home - Open windows and use extractor fans when cooking or using cleaning products, but close windows near busy roads during rush hours.

World Down Syndrome Day is on 21 March every year 📌

The date being the 21st day of the 3rd month was chosen to represent the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Most people have 23 pairs of chromosomes – 46 in total.

People with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome added onto the 21st pair – 47 in total.

Chromosomes act like an instruction manual that defines how our bodies look and how they work.

People who have Down syndrome usually have an intellectual disability. This is different in each person.

Some health conditions are more common in people with Down syndrome.

Around 1 in every 800 babies will be born with Down syndrome.

Down syndrome occurs naturally – there is no known cause.

Celebrating different minds!

The word comes from two parts - neurological and divergent.

Neurological is a term for things to do with our brain, and divergent is about moving away from a set path.

It is a term used for lots of different people who have different thinking or communicating styles.

These include lots of different things, including autism and ADHD, which impact how people communicate with others and the world around them.

There's also dyslexia, which affects how people read and spell, or dyspraxia, which impacts your movement and co-ordination.

Approximately 15-20% of the population has a neurological difference.

- No two people are the same and so we will all have different profiles

- Every neuro divergent individual has a unique pattern of strengths and challenges.

March is Ovarian Cancer awareness month 📌

Are you aware of some of the symptoms which you should look out for?

Understanding the symptoms of ovarian cancer is pivotal for early detection. Common symptoms include:

❗ Persistent bloating
❗ Pelvic or abdominal pain
❗ Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
❗ Changes in urinary habits
❗ Fatigue
❗ Unexplained weight loss or gain

These symptoms are very common and can be caused by many different conditions.

But it's still important to get them checked by a GP. This is because if they're caused by cancer, finding it early can mean it's more treatable.
