The Monitoring the Mental Health Act 2024/2025 report, which was built on interviews with over 3,000 patients and over 700 family members and carers, revealed worrying reoccurring issues of staff shortages, a lack of beds and inconsistencies in experiences.

Chris Dzikiti, interim chief inspector of mental health at the CQC, said: ‘Many people who are detained under the Mental Health Act have exhausted all other avenues of care, yet they still face long waits, with families sometimes forced to supervise them constantly while they wait.'

In just under two weeks, we’ll be hosting a webinar as part of on Trauma & Resilience Informed Practice – what it is, what it isn’t, and how it can make a meaningful difference.

During this session, Dr Warren Larkin will define key terms and present a compelling case for change, offering valuable insights into how we can adopt trauma-informed approaches to transform services and support individuals more effectively.

Meeting the increasing demand facing services with an increasingly depleted workforce (both in terms of numbers and resilience), while at the same time creating and investing in prevention is the huge challenge we are faced with.

This challenge may seem insurmountable, however, we know that by adopting a to trauma and adversity we can transform population health within a generation if we have a shared, long-term commitment to preventing childhood adversity, supporting child and family wellbeing, detecting and mitigating the impact of trauma more routinely and promoting resilience across the life course. Dr Larkin will also talk about the nature of resilience, staying well at work and the power of relationships.

We’re very much looking forward to providing this session for Leeds Safeguarding Adults Board. We’ll explore some of the controversies and focus on practical ‘next steps’ that organisations and teams can take to move forward.
