π You might be wondering,
βShould teenagers be exposed to therapy, emotional intelligence and all that?β
Based on recent survey research (Pew Research Center, APA, CDC), the number one thing teenagers struggle with is:
Anxiety and depression.
There are so many things they struggle with, but this consistently tops the list.
Anxiety and depression is what teens most commonly point to as a problem among their peers at school, with three in ten teens saying it's extremely or very common.
Girls report this more than boys, though boys are more likely to show distress through substance use, fighting, and class disruption rather than openly reporting anxiety or depression.
Reports like these are one of the reasons we are not leaving our teens and young adults to just cruise through the summer.
This August, the Teenagers Emotional Health Summer Bootcamp is a virtual space designed to help teens understand their emotions, build self-awareness, and develop the tools to navigate stress, identity, peer pressure, and everything else that comes with growing up in today's world.
