Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is such a common issue and one that takes careful management.

Finding your triggers are key. Any inflammation can trigger but if your melanocytes are more active, such as in darker skin, they are more easily triggered.

Aggressive exfoliation is be of the most common mistakes I see resulting in PIH.

Follow along for more types of pigmentation and treatments.

Melasma is the most chronic and difficult pigmentation to treat.

It lays deeper in the skin and is referred very easily.

Hormones are a key trigger and a lot of people get it during pregnancy. Heat is another trigger.

Generally it is an inflammatory and vascular visitation. You can’t test aggressively if you will regret it!

Pigmentation is so difficult because there are so many triggers!

This is Part 2 of my pigment series.

In terms of triggers, we all remember UV as a very common cause, but there are lots if others.

Picking your skin whether because of acne, psoriasis or an insect bite can cause pigmentation. Heat is a key one, especially for melasma.

Inflammation is another key reason for pigment and that can be internal as well as in the skin. Hormonal changes whether during pregnancy, menopause or when taking contraception.

What seems to trigger your pigmentation?

If pigment is frustrating you, why not follow along for more?

Pigmentation is a frustrating and difficult skin problem. It very commonly gets triggered by various things!

So in this series on pigmentation, I’m going to take you through how pigment is formed, how it is triggered, what we can do to prevent it and also treat it.

Sadly suppression rather than cure is the key.

Are you aiming for flawless skin, no pores, no pigment etc?

Sadly that doesn’t exist! We need pores as we sweat out of them. Most products cannot shrink pores. They can minimize them but not close them.

It is really normal to have some pigment, redness, pores and other imperfections. When having treatments, the aim is to improve skin health and maintain skin as much as possible, rather than perfection.

I just don’t want you to be wasting a lot of money on chasing something that doesn’t exist. 💜

Before and after pictures- a good representative of treatment, or just a scam?

As you can see, it’s very easy to manipulate just with lighting, let alone camera angles and filters!

So I don’t post lots of before and afters. My patients very much value their privacy.

But what do you think? Do you like to see them, or do you take them with a pinch of salt?

Acne scarring looking worse as your ageing? This is pretty common.

Sadly as we age, we tend to lose collagen and this can make acne scarring worse.

But there are ways to improve this. For example Hydromax from Vivacy, which is able to plump, repair and strengthen skin. Using a cannula we are able to lift the scarring up from the underlying layers of skin. Then Rejuran S which is a polynucleotide to treat some of the deeper scars and again heal and repair the skin.

Other options alongside are microneedling and RF microneedling. Combinations of these can work very well.

If you’re having issues with acne scarring, why not DM me ACNE.

Vitamin A has so many uses but for red and inflamed skin it can be highly irritating unless it’s in the right formulation.

Retinols are alcohol based, tretinoin is acid based and retinaldehyde is in between the two. But retinyl esters such as retinyl palmitate, or acetate etc. can be much gentler and better tolerated.

Environ do the most amazing retinyl ester vitamin As that are formulated alongside Vitamin C and E as well as other nourishing ingredients. It means that even the most irritated skins can tolerate Vitamin A.

Careful pairing with other calming ingredients such as colostrum makes the Environ range amazing for problematic skins 💜

So if you want to break out of that inflamed cycle, why not book a consultation xx

Skin cancer signs part 2. Basal cell carcinomas.

Basal cell carcinomas are quite subtle and can feel like a pimple that just doesn’t go away. Or a scaly patch.

They can itch and bleed, heal over and then bleed again. Some men find they keep nicking themselves shaving in the same spot.

Anything that’s been hanging around and not going away, see your doctor.
