Why you shouldn’t p*e “just in case”
It might seem sensible to empty your bladder before every journey, meeting, or trip out, but doing it too often can actually train your bladder to think it’s full when it isn’t.
What happens?
• Your bladder gradually gets used to holding smaller volumes of urine.
• The nerves in the bladder become more sensitive and start sending “I need to go!” signals earlier than they should.
• Over time, this can lead to urgency, frequency, and symptoms of an overactive bladder.
A healthy adult bladder can usually hold urine for 2 to 4 hours between toilet visits, and most people urinate about 5 to 8 times during the day
When is it OK?
Occasionally going before a long journey, a flight, or when you know toilet access will be limited is perfectly reasonable. The issue is making “just in case” weeing a regular habit.
