Cases of measles are rising across the UK, and London has some of the lowest MMR vaccination rates in the UK.

Measles is more than just a rash. 1 in 5 children with measles will need hospital treatment. It can cause serious complications and in rare cases can be fatal. Getting lifelong protection against is simple - you just need to have 2 doses of the vaccine.

If you think you or a loved one isn’t up to date, contact your GP practice to book a catch up appointment.

Cervical screening saves lives.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, and screening can help stop it before it starts.

Screening checks for certain types of the HPV virus that can cause cell changes to your cervix.
The changes can be easily treated before they have a chance to turn into cervical cancer.
Please don’t ignore your cervical screening invite. If you missed your last one, contact your GP practice to arrange an appointment.

It is Dementia Action Week this week from 19th to 25th May! In 2022, an estimated 1,929 residents in Merton had dementia yet 632 didn’t have a formal diagnosis1 . Dementia Action Week encourages us all to take action to improve the lives of those affected by dementia, helping them live independently for longer and make them feel understood and supported. Merton Council are taking part and increasing awareness, promoting events and activities. We encourage you to attend!

Today is National Social Prescribing Day!

What Is Social Prescribing?
Social prescribing is a way of linking patients in primary care with sources of support within the community. It provides GPs with a non-medical referral option that can operate alongside existing medical treatments to improve health and well-being. Recognising that people’s health and well-being are determined by a range of social, economic, and environmental factors, social prescribing seeks to address people’s needs in a holistic way. It also aims to support individuals to have more choice and control in how their health and well-being is managed and maintained.
