🌺 Red Begonias — Quick Details
Red begonias are popular flowering plants valued for their bright, long-lasting blooms. They work beautifully in UK containers, borders and hanging baskets.
☀️ Light: Bright light to partial shade; requirements vary by variety.
💧 Water: Keep compost moderately moist but never waterlogged.
🌱 Soil: Fertile, loose and well-drained compost.

Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) 🦅

The Common Buzzard is one of the most widespread birds of prey in the UK. Its plumage varies considerably, from quite dark brown to much paler birds with white markings.

🪽 Wingspan: roughly 113–128 cm
🐭 Food: small mammals, especially voles and rabbits, plus birds, reptiles, earthworms and carrion
🌳 Habitat: woodland edges, farmland, fields and open countryside
🪺 Nesting: usually builds a large stick nest in a tree
🥚 Eggs: commonly 2–4
🔊 Call: a distinctive high, mewing call
🇬🇧 UK status: resident and widespread
How to recognise one in flight: Look for broad rounded wings, a relatively short tail and slow soaring or circling flight. They are often seen sitting on fence posts or trees watching the ground for prey.
⚠️ Buzzards are protected wild birds in the UK and should not be disturbed, particularly around active nests.

Gerbera daisies are bright, cheerful flowers with large daisy-like blooms in red, pink, orange, yellow, white and bi-colours. 🌼🌸
For growing in the UK, give them a bright, sunny, sheltered position and fertile, well-drained compost. Water when the surface begins to dry, but avoid waterlogging and try not to leave water sitting in the crown. Deadhead faded flowers by removing the whole flower stem from the base to encourage more blooms.

Many commonly sold Gerberas are not reliably winter-hardy in the UK, so container plants are easier to move somewhere bright and frost-free for winter. Some hardy varieties can tolerate colder conditions when planted in very well-drained, sheltered sites.

Geraniums
Geraniums are colourful, easy-care plants that are excellent for UK gardens, pots, hanging baskets and window boxes. 🌸
They prefer full sun or bright light and well-drained soil. Water when the top of the compost starts to dry, but avoid keeping the roots constantly wet. Regular deadheading encourages more flowers, and a high-potash feed every 1–2 weeks during active flowering can help.
Most common bedding geraniums (Pelargoniums) are not reliably frost-hardy in the UK. Before the first frost, move plants to a bright, frost-free place if you want to keep them for next year. True hardy geraniums (cranesbills) are different and can usually remain outdoors through winter.
