The Line, London London’s public art walk The Line is London’s first dedicated public art walk.

It’s outdoor exhibition programme illuminates an inspiring landscape where everyone can explore art, nature and heritage for free. The route runs between Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and The O2 following the waterways and the line of the Greenwich Meridian. What happens when you let children lead with curiosity, play and imagination?⁠

Artist Halima Akhtar shares a glimpse of ‘Spaces to Explore’, The Line’s two-year collaborative schools’ project with three Newham primary schools and seven artist-facilitators.⁠
⁠
Halima and the Year 3 and 4 children have explored process-led making: drawing with their whole bodies, looking closely, zooming out, and finding new ways to take inspiration from the world around them. Two years in, that time spent getting to know one another has made space for work that’s even more expressive, playful and full of storytelling.⁠

The project now comes together in our exhibition, open from today. Come and see what they’ve made.⁠

☀️ Congratulations to Cody Dock on the opening of The Boat House – a wonderful new addition to their site next to the River Lea.⁠

Two years in the making, the new building is topped with the restored Frederick Kitchen, the last vessel built by Thames Ironworks, the great boatbuilders of the industrial revolution, right here on the River Lea. A lovely bit of East London’s history, brought back to life on its own doorstep.⁠
⁠
It’s a gem of a spot for a sunny day: a community garden, great cafe (Cody Dock Cafe), various activities for all ages, wildflowers along the water, and a proper green pause beside the river.⁠
⁠
And it’s on the route of The Line – so take your time as you enjoy the art installations on these sunny days. 🌿⁠

Two working cable bridges spanning the River Lea are an unexpected canvas for large-scale public art on The Line, East London's public art trail 🌿⁠

In collaboration with UK Power Networks the Madge Gill 'Nature in Mind' installation at has been renewed and brought back brighter than ever, on the 60-metre bridge that carries electricity across the river to thousands of East London homes and businesses.⁠
⁠
Further upstream, another bridge carries Helen Cammock's 'On WindTides', a large-scale text work exploring movement, migration and change, developed in 2024 with local people.⁠
⁠
Both art installations are landmarks on the route of The Line in East London. Fabricating and installing art on such a grand scale is both a challenge and an opportunity for all involved.⁠
⁠
With thanks to ukpowernetworks, whose support shows how essential infrastructure can help to celebrate heritage and creativity as well as offering a springboard for outdoor learning, skills development and wellbeing 💡⁠

Spring has sprung, the sun is out, and Cody Dock welcomes a new cafe! are serving breakfast and lunch alongside sweet treats and delicious coffee. A lovely place to refuel and recharge.

Open daily from 8am to 5pm.

The Cody Dock bar is also back and will be open on Fridays from 5pm to 10pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 8pm.

Other refreshment stops along the route of The Line can be found on the interactive map on our website.

❄️☀️ Some winter route updates for your visit this month:

The Cody Dock site will remain open during the festive period, with adjusted hours on specific days so you can still enjoy the dock:

🔹 Closed: 25 December (Christmas Day) and 1 January (New Year's Day)
🔹 Adjusted Hours (10:00 am - 4:00pm): all weekends from 26th - 28 December and throughout January
🔹 All Other Days: Open as usual

If you are visiting The Line outside of these times, you can take the alternative route between the river path and Star Lane station via Cody Road. Visit the Visitor Info page on our website for more info.

🚇 Public Transport over the festive period

All TFL public transport services, including the IFS Cloud Cable Cars, will not be running on 25 December and may be operating limited services between 20 December and 5 January. Please visit TFL to check your journey.
