Have you ever seen an end-of-life memorial featured in a design exhibition?

We’re proud that Resting Reef is part of Biodiseño MX: Territorios Vivos at the in Mexico City. This exhibition explores how design can learn from, work with, and regenerate the natural world. You’ll find our memorial reef designs, an underwater video showcasing the life growing on our reefs, and a glimpse into our work with local communities in Bali to support marine restoration.

A Resting Reef transforms cremated human or pet ashes into a lasting memorial reef, placed on the seabed in Bali to help restore marine life.

We guide you through every step: from receiving the ashes and transforming them into a reef structure, to placement, monitoring and long-term regeneration.

And the journey doesn’t end when the reef reaches the ocean.🐠🪸

A memorial reef doesn’t end when it reaches the seabed, that’s where it starts to come alive.

We call this part aftercare: ongoing updates and underwater photos, so you can follow the reef as marine life moves in. At our Bali site, we’ve recorded 17 times higher biodiversity than nearby degraded areas, with 102 species identified, a lot of new life to share.

Resting Reef at BOAT International 💙

Excited to see Resting Reef included in BOAT International’s coverage of the Ocean Talks 2026 event in June, where Resting Reef and our co-founder Louise were highlighted alongside a group of ocean-focused initiatives at the Serpentine Gallery in London. The monthly magazine started in 1983, and since then it has become a reference within the marine industry, so for us, getting recognition from this established platform means a huge deal!

Every memorial reef comes with a miniature to keep at home.

A Resting Reef is made from cremated ashes, human or pet, cast into a reef and placed on the seabed off Bali, where marine life moves in and makes it home. Alongside the reef you receive a keepsake replica, a certificate, the GPS location, and a plaque, then restoration updates and underwater footage as new life takes hold.

What if saying goodbye could also give something back? 💙🌊

This September 2026, we’re bringing together a small group to Bali for an experience unlike any other hosted locally by Yayasan Karang Kenangan Bali.

Together, we’ll memorialise loved ones by creating living memorial reefs that help restore marine life. You’ll experience the impact firsthand, snorkel or scuba dive at the site, learn about the science behind our work, and see how restoration creates new life.

Our monitoring has shown that our memorial reefs support 17× higher biodiversity than nearby degraded areas, with 102 fish species already recorded around our sites.

A celebration of life, a chance to connect with nature, and an opportunity to leave a legacy in the memory of a loved one that continues growing for generations.
