“Healing isn’t linear. Some days you go backwards, that’s still progress.”

Not every day will feel like growth. Some days feel heavy, repetitive, or like you’re slipping back into old patterns, but that doesn’t erase how far you’ve come.

Progress can look like resting, starting again, asking for help, or simply getting through the day.

Be patient with yourself. Healing is still happening, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Sometimes people don’t realise that mental health journeys don’t just affect the individual, they affect entire families.

Watching my son go through his own struggles made me realise how many families in our communities are suffering quietly, often battling stigma, trauma, and a lack of culturally understanding support.

That experience is what led me to create Find a Balance CIC.
Not because I had all the answers, but because I knew our communities needed safe spaces where people could feel heard, understood, and supported without judgement.

The NHS plays an important role, but community-led support matters too.
Sometimes healing begins with simply knowing you are not alone.

Stop blaming your environment. Sometimes YOU are the source of your own stress, your habits, your boundaries, your choices. Recognising that isn’t a weakness. It’s the first act of real self-leadership.

Mental health IS health. Full stop. 🖤

We don’t separate the two.

You wouldn’t ignore a broken bone. You wouldn’t push through chest pains and call it strength. So why are we still treating our minds like they don’t deserve the same care?

On this World Health Day, we’re saying it loud and we’re saying it clearly.

Your mental health matters. Not when it gets bad enough. Not when you’ve exhausted every other option.

Now. Today. Always.

Find a Balance CIC is here for those who’ve been overlooked, underserved, and told to just get on with it.

Faith has always been a cornerstone of healing in our communities. It has been the thing that carried us when nothing else could. The quiet prayer in the early hours. The scripture held close during a season of loss. The belief that we are not forgotten, even when the world has made us feel invisible.

Healing happens in community. It happens in worship. It happens when we are finally given the space to be honest about our pain and still believe that better is coming.

The conversation our families couldn’t have, we’re having it now.

Mental health in our communities starts at home. In the words we never given.

Be strong. Don’t bring shame to this family.

But your journey was never meant to look like theirs.
Your pace, your process, your healing, all valid.
Progress isn’t about keeping up.

It’s about staying connected to yourself.

Be gentle with where you are.
You’re not late. You’re not failing.
You’re becoming.

Checking in on someone’s mental health matters, but how and where we do it matters too.

Asking someone if they’re mentally okay doesn’t need to feel awkward or intrusive, but it does need to feel safe, private, and respectful.

Here are 5 gentle ways to check in without offending:
• “How have you really been lately?”
• “I’ve noticed you seem a bit quieter than usual. Do you want to talk?”
• “You don’t have to explain anything, but I’m here if you need support.”
• “Is there anything I can do to help right now?”
• “How is life feeling for you at the moment?”

Mental health conversations don’t have to take place in formal, serious environments to be meaningful or appropriate.

Sometimes, a relaxed setting, such as going for a walk, having coffee, or a casual check-in, feels safer than a formal sit-down. For many people, especially those who may already feel guarded, a serious setting can feel intimidating or overwhelming.

Mental health check-ins deserve time, privacy, and presence.
When we create the right environment, we make it easier for people to speak honestly or simply feel seen.

Let’s normalise checking in properly, not just asking the question.

The Mental Health Act 2025: A step forward, but more to do

The new Mental Health Act 2025 gives people more say in their care, tightens rules around detention, and stops inappropriate sectioning of those with autism or learning disabilities.

Police cells and prisons will no longer be “places of safety” — a long-overdue change. Crisis should meet care, not criminalisation.

But for Black and ethnic communities, inequalities remain. People are still more likely to be detained and unheard. Real change comes from:
• Listening to lived experience
• Supporting community-led services
• Building trust before crisis
• Holding systems accountable

At Find a Balance CIC, we’ll keep showing up for our communities — so these changes make a real difference on the ground.

💬 What do you think of the new Act?

The Elephant in the Room 🐘

We gather around the table. We laugh, we eat, we catch up on everything jobs, relationships, who’s doing what.

But mental health? That stays silent.

In our community, struggling mentally is still seen as weakness. Asking for help feels like bringing shame to the family. So we smile, we say “I’m fine,” and we carry our burdens alone.

But here’s the truth: there’s nothing weak about acknowledging you’re not okay. There’s nothing shameful about needing support.

The real strength is in breaking the silence.

This year, let’s start having the conversations we’ve been avoiding. Let’s check in, really check in—on each other.

Your mental health matters. 🖤

How are you REALLY doing?
