🌿 WHY IS FIBRE SO IMPORTANT FOR YOUR BOWEL?
We often hear that fibre helps keep us regular — but some types of fibre do much more than simply add bulk to our stool.
Certain fibres and other fermentable carbohydrates reach the large bowel, where they can be fermented by our gut bacteria.
During this process, bacteria produce short-chain fatty acids, including one called butyrate.
And here’s the fascinating part…
đź’š Butyrate is an important energy source for the cells lining the colon and plays a role in supporting the health and function of the intestinal environment.
So there’s an incredible relationship happening inside your bowel:

This is one of the reasons a varied, fibre-rich diet is important for digestive health.
But remember — not all fibre behaves in the same way, and suddenly increasing fibre isn’t appropriate or comfortable for everyone.
💙 Looking after your bowel isn’t only about how often you go. It’s also about supporting the remarkable environment living within it.
