Fun facts:

1. 🦴 The Posterior Decompressor: Uses a proud forearm lift to elevate the chest, pulling the abs inward to keep the lower back long and safe from pinching.

2.🎯 The Stability Audit: Joe’s test for pelvic control; if your hips bounce or sway as your heel kicks your seat, your powerhouse isn't anchoring your base.

3.🧱 Self-Generated Resistance: Joe cued students to imagine dragging their shins through thick wet cement during the kick, maximizing hamstring fiber recruitment.

4.🔓 The Mobility Ritual: A precise maintenance move designed to open the hips and stretch tight quadriceps, counteracting the shortening caused by prolonged sitting.

5.🫁 The Respiratory Upgrade: Replaces the "stomach massage" myth with sharp, rhythmic breathing, using precise oxygen exchange to stabilize internal pressure against the leg movement.

Could your feet be the hidden cause of your lower back pain? 🦶💥

Most people don't realize how much poor foot support impacts their posture and spine. If you’re struggling with stiffness or soreness, try adding these 3 key exercises to your routine:

1️⃣ Heel Raises (Focus on keeping weight on the ball of your foot)

2️⃣ Tibialis Raises (Drive full ankle flexion & extension)

3️⃣ 4D Single-Leg Squats (Reach far in all directions to build stability)

Save this for your next workout! 📌

Pain-free movement starts at your feet.

1-The Spinal Decompressor: Lifts the ribcage away from the hips before twisting, preventing vertebral grinding during multi-planar movement.

2- The Stability : Joe’s diagnostic for symmetry; if your opposite hip lifts as you rotate, your nervous system has lost its anchor.

3- Self-Generated Resistance: Reaching dynamically in opposite directions to create a self-imposed "wringing" tension through the trunk.

4- The Mobility Ritual: A vital maintenance move that forces the spine out of its everyday forward-and-back routine to oil the waistline.

5-The Respiratory Upgrade: Replaces the "organ wringing" myth with staccato exhalation to mechanically drive a deeper rotation.

Fun Facts

1- The Powerhouse Shield: Lock the inner thighs and anchor the pelvis. The core must remain completely immovable while the legs dynamically whip and circle.

2- The Line of Extension: Reach intensely through the toes to maintain a dancer's long, flawless lines and total-body artistic symmetry during expansion.

3-The Axial Elongation Pivot: Pull the spine long before lifting or twisting. This creates space between the vertebrae, mechanically shielding the lower back from injury.

4-The "Cold Studio" Furnace: Perform rapid, intense movements to ignite internal metabolic heat, built to counter Joe’s notoriously freezing 8th Avenue studio.

5-The Dead Fish Audit: Never let the legs or hips slam down. Movement must be controlled like a taut, coiled spring, rather than dropping with a heavy "thud."

WELCOME TO DAY 6 OF 6 OF OUR ULTIMATE BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTHY KNEES!

Today, we are covering three reformer exercises that will stabilize your knee like nothing else.

BENT KNEE CARRIAGE PULL: Place your foot in front of the shoulder rest and pull the carriage towards you. For this movement, preferably keep both knees very bent.

OPEN HIP CARRIAGE PULL: Do the exact same thing as the first exercise, but with your hips open in a wide stance. Always ensure you are having the knees tracing the big toe.

INNER THIGH PULL: Face towards the reformer with both knees straight, and pull the carriage towards you with the inside of your foot. It is important to lock your knees here to achieve the maximum recruitment for the inner thighs!

WELCOME TO DAY 5 OF 6 OF OUR ULTIMATE BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTHY KNEES!

Is tightness preventing you from moving your knee freely? If you feel restricted, these 3 flexibility exercises will do wonders for you:

ELEVATED PIGEON POSE WITH PILATES BALL: We highly suggest doing this on an elevated surface. Place a Pilates ball underneath your knee and press your knee against the ball. Once you master this, you can try it without any resistance!

HAMSTRING SLIDES: Get into a hamstring stretch position and let your heel slide forward and backward. No slippery floor? No problem. Keep your foot steady and instead lift and lower your upper body!

SQUARE HIP LUNGES: Bend and straighten your back knee. The movement should be small but very intense! 10-12 repetitions, 3 times a day will do wonders for your hip mobility.

WELCOME TO DAY 4 OF 6 OF OUR ULTIMATE BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTHY KNEES!

Today, we are going over the most overlooked knee rehab exercises. The best part? They are all available to you even during a flare-up! Make sure to pay attention to the last one, as it is the most important.

TIBIALIS ANTERIOR: Strengthening the front of the shins is very important for shock absorption.

BENT KNEE CALF RAISES: Strengthening the knees with your knees bent is critical for everyday life.

REVERSE STEP-UPS: This is vital for strengthening the muscles when you are walking downhill, and for sports that require changes of speed.

WELCOME TO DAY 3 OF 6 OF OUR ULTIMATE BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTHY KNEES!

Ever finished rehab, only for the pain to return soon after? You might be making one of these 4 critical mistakes:

NO IMPACT WORK: You don’t need to be a runner to need impact! It is vital for building facial tightness and long-term health.

NO LOADED EXERCISES: Avoiding weights? Big mistake. Even if you don’t want to bulk up, loaded work is essential for building strength.

OBSESSING OVER RANGE OF MOTION: While important, there are plenty of people with tight hips and knees who are completely pain-free. Don’t get hyper-focused here.

IGNORING HIP & FOOT STABILITY: Your knee acts as a hinge between your hip and foot. Weakness in either of those areas often leads straight to a knee injury!

WELCOME TO DAY 2 OF 6 OF OUR ULTIMATE BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTHY KNEES!

These 3 exercises are perfect for straight after a knee operation, whether you're at home or on a reformer! Let's get moving:

Glute Bridge: Lie on your back with your heels elevated. Lift your hips until your shoulders, hips, and knees form a straight line. Feel it in your glutes or hamstrings! (If your lower back hurts, flatten your back and engage your core).

Wall Sit: With your back flat against a wall, lower your hips to a comfortable depth. Hold until you feel the burn in your quads, then slightly rise and hold longer if you can!

Good Morning: Stand with feet hip-width apart and hands on your hips. Engage your core and hinge at your hips, keeping your legs straight and spine neutral. You should feel a deep stretch in the back of your legs!

Pro-Tip: Experiencing knee pain during these exercises? Place a Pilates ball between your knees for extra stability!

If you’re in North London and dealing with an injury that’s keeping you off the horse saddle, off the tennis court, off the ski slopes, or off your morning run — this is for you.

The injuries that keep you out of the sports you love 🐎🎾⛷️🏃‍♀️ rarely come from “one thing” — they come from patterns: weak links, overcompensating muscles, ranges you’ve stopped using without realising it.
