MotoGP riders sometimes realise they have gone half a lap without properly breathing.

Not because they forgot how to breathe.

Because under threat, speed, concentration and intense muscular effort, the body can automatically brace, increase tension and temporarily suppress normal breathing.

You probably do it too.

During a difficult lift.
A stressful conversation.
A deadline.
A complex decision.
A moment of pain.

The environment is different.
The physiology is not.

This is one of the reasons HRU doesn't simply ask, “Are you stressed?”

We look at how your physiology responds when we deliberately challenge it.

Heart rate.
PPG-derived cardiovascular responses.
Autonomic regulation.
Cognitive performance under stress.
Recovery after the stressor.

And then we train the other side of the equation.

Controlled breathing.
Biofeedback.
Autonomic down-regulation.
Repeated exposure to stress followed by efficient recovery.

The goal isn't to eliminate stress.

It is to make your physiology better at handling it.

From 28 September to 1 October, BOOTA is bringing together four expert-led sessions focused on real clinical cases, practical protocols, scientific discussion and real-world outcomes in oxygen–ozone therapy.

This is more than a webinar series.

It is a rare opportunity in the UK to access high-level education, exchange clinical experience and help build stronger, safer and more credible standards for ozone therapy.

I am incredibly grateful to be part of this movement and proud to contribute, alongside colleagues who are equally committed to advancing the field.

My session will open the series on Monday 28 September:

Oxygen–Ozone Neuromodulation
A New Approach to Acute and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

For me, this is exactly where BOOTA can make a real difference: creating a professional community where education, clinical governance, evidence and experience come together to raise the standard of ozone therapy in the UK.

Four evenings. Four different perspectives. One shared objective: better practice and better outcomes.

28 September – 1 October 2026
6:30–7:30 pm BST

“No one can do it for you.”

That line from Ringo Starr’s recent feature in Men’s Health captures one of the core principles behind HRU.

The future of health, longevity and performance cannot be built around passive healthcare alone. It has to give people the tools to understand their own physiology, take ownership of it, and make better decisions every day.

Technology can measure. Clinicians can guide. Data can inform.

But ultimately, the action has to be yours.

A great message from Ringo Starr — and one that strongly reflects what we are building at HRU.

Most “advanced wellness” is still looking at the body through the wrong lens.

We have become very good at collecting data.

Blood panels. Genetics. Hormones. Biomarkers. Wearables. Cold exposure. Hyperbaric oxygen. Red light. Supplements.

But collecting more data does not automatically mean understanding physiology.

A blood test can tell you what is circulating in the blood.

It does not necessarily tell you how effectively your cardiovascular, autonomic, respiratory, metabolic and nervous systems are functioning together in real time.

We talk about circadian rhythm, yet rarely measure whether the autonomic system can transition appropriately between activation and recovery.

We talk about genetics, while often ignoring the more actionable question: what environment are those genes operating in?

Sleep. Light. Stress. Movement. Nutrition. Breathing. Recovery. Metabolic flexibility. Cardiovascular function.

That is where epigenetics becomes much more relevant than simply knowing which genetic variants you carry.

And this is one of the reasons we built HRU differently.

We want to objectively assess how your physiology is functioning.

How your nervous system regulates.

How your cardiovascular system responds.

How you recover from physiological challenge.

How respiration interacts with autonomic control.

How metabolic, vascular, structural and inflammatory signals relate to one another.

And, critically, whether those systems change when we intervene.

Because diagnostics without intervention is just information.

And intervention without diagnostics is guessing.

At HRU, we connect the two:

Measure the physiology → identify the limiting system → intervene → measure the response → adapt the plan.

Circadian health, recovery, nutrition, exercise, breathing, sleep and lifestyle medicine should not exist as isolated “wellness” concepts.

They are inputs into the same biological system.

The future of health optimisation will not be about having the most biomarkers or the most impressive room full of technology.

It will be about understanding which physiological system needs attention, what to do about it, and whether it worked.

A big day for us.

Today we officially launch a collaboration that we believe is one of the most unique developments in the UK space of integrative, functional and performance-led health.

ElevaCell x HVN

This partnership brings a distinct clinical model into a premium environment: osteopathic medicine, musculoskeletal diagnostics, biomechanics, ultrasound-led assessment and oxygen-ozone therapy, all connected by one shared vision around performance, recovery and high-level natural care.

This is not symptom-chasing. It is precision-led care designed to understand what is really driving pain, dysfunction, overload and reduced performance, and then address it with the right tools.

Osteopathy plays a central role through hands-on assessment and treatment, helping identify mechanical drivers of pain, restore movement and support recovery.

Oxygen-ozone therapy is the crown jewel of this model. It adds a regenerative and recovery-focused dimension, supporting tissue healing, calming inflammation and offering a natural treatment option where recovery has stalled or other approaches have not been enough.

HRU x HVN

This is also a major milestone for HRU.

HRU was built around a simple idea: people deserve to understand what is happening beneath the surface before things break down further. Stress load. Recovery capacity. Autonomic balance. Inflammation. Physiological resilience. Performance readiness.

Launching HRU inside HVN brings that vision into the kind of environment it was built for: one that values prevention, insight, recovery and excellence.

For me personally, this is also a meaningful step. It is a great opportunity to keep learning, growing and evolving in an environment that reflects high standards and real ambition.

A big thank you to all the people who have worked behind the scenes to help bring this to life.

This is a historic step for HRU, a major evolution for ElevaCell, and the beginning of a very special journey with HVN.

We are only getting started.

FREE WEBINAR: Why BOOTA Matters

The landscape of oxygen–ozone therapy in the UK is changing.

For years, practitioners have worked without clear structure, limited representation, inconsistent standards, and very little collective protection. That has left many clinicians isolated — despite the growing clinical interest, patient demand, and international evidence base surrounding oxygen–ozone therapy.

That is exactly why BOOTA was created.

This is more than another association.
It is a defining moment for the profession in the UK.

BOOTA has been formed to help build a safer, more structured, academically driven future for oxygen and ozone therapy practitioners — one focused on education, standards, practitioner protection, responsible practice, and long-term professional recognition.

We are bringing together clinicians who want to elevate the profession properly.

FREE WEBINAR:

This online event will explain:

✅ Why BOOTA was formed
✅ Why this moment matters for the future of the profession
✅ How we protect and support practitioners
✅ The importance of standards, education, and responsible practice

Helping elite athletes push their limits means making sure their entire system is ready for the next challenge! 🏔️🏃‍♂️

It was an absolute pleasure having Kori Sampson in clinic just before he set off on his epic 30th birthday, running in the freezing Dolomites. You can check out his full journey in his latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg_8qsYexKw&t=906s

When Kori came, he had been experiencing Achilles pain for over 4 weeks, so we couldn't just guess—we needed to look exactly at what was happening beneath the surface. Here is a breakdown of how we approached his recovery and performance enhancement:

🔍 Diagnostic Ultrasound
We took a deep look at the structure of his Achilles. While the tendon was thankfully completely intact, the scan allowed us to pinpoint a specific, less dense area showing fluid buildup and high inflammation.

⚡ Oxygen-Ozone Therapy
To rapidly accelerate his healing, we utilized Oxygen-Ozone Therapy right on the spot. For an high performers this ticks all the boxes, it is natural, minimally invasive and doesn't have any downtime to recover after. It reduces inflammation with zero adverse side effects, allowing him to safely maintain 80% of his running progression rather than dropping his mileage by half!

🧠 Performance Enhancement with HRU
Physical recovery is only half the battle; the rest is systemic optimization. Using the HRU analysis we ran Kori through an entire check of his system physiology. One of the intervention was made by actively syncing his breathing to instruct his brain to effectively down-regulate. Changing these internal habits builds true physiological resilience from the inside out. For someone like him, it means dropping 15-20 bpm on a high pace run. Incredible.

Seeing him crush his snowy mountain runs and icy lake plunges in the Dolomites is exactly what this work is all about! Proud to support you on your journey, Kori. Let’s keep building. 🚀

She is Elena 36 years old

She didn’t come in saying she was depressed.

She came in saying:
“I feel empty.”
“I’m tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix.”
“I don’t feel anxious. I don’t feel sad. I just don’t feel.”

She was still functioning.
Working. Parenting. Showing up.

That’s why it was missed.

Her GP visit was short.
Blood tests normal.
Hormones within range.

So the conclusion came fast:
Depression.
Antidepressant.
Come back in six weeks.

This is where melancholic depression often gets misdiagnosed.

Classic depression is largely symptom-based.
Mood, thoughts, behaviour.

Melancholic depression is different.

It is frequently driven by:
• Chronic stress exposure
• Long-term HPA axis dysregulation
• Loss of circadian cortisol rhythm
• Autonomic nervous system flattening
• Low-grade systemic inflammation

The literature is clear on this.

Chronic stress can initially raise cortisol, but over time it leads to a blunted, rigid stress response.
This state is associated with anhedonia, psychomotor slowing, early-morning fatigue, loss of reactivity, and emotional flattening — the hallmarks of melancholic depression.

Because:
• She isn’t crying
• She isn’t panicking
• She isn’t catastrophising

Her condition is interpreted as purely psychological.

So treatment targets neurotransmitters alone.

But antidepressants don’t restore:
• Autonomic flexibility
• Circadian rhythm
• Stress-axis responsiveness
• Metabolic and inflammatory balance

This is why many patients with melancholic depression feel:
“Numb but unchanged”
“Less reactive but not better”
“Still tired, just quieter”

Elena wasn’t failing treatment.

The treatment was incomplete.

At HRU, we don’t start with labels.

We assess:
• Autonomic nervous system regulation
• Stress adaptation phase
• Cortisol rhythm integrity
• Inflammatory and oxidative load

Because in melancholic depression, the mind is not the starting point.

The system shut down first.
The mood followed.

This isn’t a purely mental health disorder.

It’s a whole-body stress adaptation state that has gone on too long.

And unless that physiology is addressed, the diagnosis will keep being technically correct — and clinically insufficient.

Anna is 39.

Two kids.
A demanding job.
Running on coffee, discipline, and “I’ll rest later”.

She did what every expert tells you to do.

Calorie deficit.
Low-carb phases.
Fasted training.
HIIT classes squeezed in before work or late at night.

She lost weight everywhere.

Except the belly.

So she pushed harder.
Cut calories more.
Trained more intensely.

And the fat became even more resistant.

What no one explained is that female fat loss is not just about calories. It’s about safety.

Chronic stress keeps cortisol elevated.
Elevated cortisol tells the body one thing: do not let go.

In women, that message hits harder.

High cortisol:
• Blocks fat loss around the abdomen
• Disrupts insulin sensitivity
• Flattens the stress axis
• Interferes with ovarian hormones
• Increases inflammatory and oxidative load

Then add high-intensity training on top of an already overloaded system.

More oxidative stress.
More cortisol.
More survival signalling.

Her body wasn’t being stubborn.
It was being protective.

At HRU, we don’t start by asking what diet she’s on.

We assess:
• Autonomic nervous system balance
• Stress adaptation phase
• Acid load and buffering capacity
• Whether exercise is helping recovery or amplifying threat

Until stress comes down, rhythm returns, and the nervous system shifts out of survival mode, fat loss will not switch on.

Especially not in women.

The issue wasn’t effort.
It was physiology being ignored.

Belly fat is not the enemy.
It’s a signal.
