A quick walk meant taking in as much nature as possible, so in the river I got.
is a practice where we touch natural surfaces and exchange electrons. Yes electrons. We are electric ⚡️

Nothing gets us out of our heads and into nature quicker than green, water, texture, natural daylight.

We are electric and we run off of signals. Dark, light, hot, cold…..

We are what we eat, what we digest and what we absorb.
For all of our evolution we ate foods as we found them. We learned to preserve them using various techniques like fermenting, pickling, drying etc, but we were always consuming food that was as we found it.
Modern foods are here to stay, but we should remember that our food should mostly be in its natural state with the least amount of INGREDIENTS, especially those that we cannot pronounce, easily have access to, and are completely unnecessary.

I left the picture on of my completely over cooked eggs simply to show you that this is what real food sometimes looks like 🙄

This may not be your idea of a great breakfast (it may be in the future though 😉), but the principle can work with whatever you enjoy eating.
The message isn’t that everybody should eat eggs, kimchi and sourdough.

It’s about getting back into the kitchen, reclaiming some control over our health and keeping more of our hard-earned money rather than continually handing it to large food companies selling products designed for convenience, long shelf life and repeat consumption, not necessarily our long-term wellbeing.

This entire plate cost approximately £2.93. And I didn’t choose the cheapest ingredients.

It includes organic eggs, branded fermented kimchi, liquid egg white, sourdough, vegetables and healthy fats.

Healthy eating can become expensive, but it doesn’t have to involve exotic powders, endless supplements or a trolley full of “wellness” products.

Start with foods you already like. Build your meal around a good source of protein, add fibre and colour, then include enough healthy fat to make it enjoyable and satisfying.

Cooking more food at home doesn’t require perfection or hours in the kitchen. It simply gives you greater control over the ingredients, the cost and what your food is doing for your health.

Perhaps the real question isn’t whether healthy eating costs too much but how much we are already paying for food that keeps us hungry and gives very little back.

Fasting - can be helpful. It can also be far too much for an already stressed body

Work outs are fabulous - unless your body is not ready for them

Keto is a game changer / for some people, not others. You do not need to start here

Calorie counting is super helpful - unless it means you discount nutrients

Every approach has its benefits and its downsides.
Your personal history, health, food beliefs and habits all mean that not all of the approaches are suitable for you.
It is so very easy to get lured into the next big thing, but are these constant mental shifts what are keeping you stuck.
Health always comes first, fat loss come second.

Breakfast like a King
Lunch like a Prince
Dinner like a pauper
If you suffer from food noise (a term that is being cashed in in) instead of fasting in the morning, or having a coffee and white knuckling it through to lunch, try a big old breakfast to set you up for the day.

It feels really counterintuitive when we have lived with restriction for years, but eating (whole foods) until you are full is one of the easiest ways to reduce food seeking behaviours in the afternoon and evening.

….Because the first thing you eat in the day tells your body how to behave the rest of it.

Protein, fats and fibre are the foundations.

Eating sufficient calories tell your brain that there is plenty of food and you are nutritionally fed, which is so much more satiating than a few mouthfuls of cereal.
Want the cereal? Eat it after a full whole food breakfast. It will be such a small portion compared to cereal being the main event.

And. If you take tomatoes + onion + any other veg. Cook it down. Add herbs. You will have the most amazing side dish to any meal.
Be brave. Try a new dish. The message I give my clients is simple.
If you like all the individual ingredients mixing them up increases the pleasure, and you get to feel accomplished in the kitchen

What is the difference between a nutritional therapist, a dietitian and a nutritionist?

A group of us within the nutritional therapy profession are sharing this infographic (kindly put together by a colleague) to bring greater clarity to the different roles, and to bring awareness of these differences, not to suggest that one profession is superior to another.

It follows a recent BDA article that, in our view, did not accurately represent the training or scope of practice of a registered nutritional therapist.

Each profession brings a different combination of training, skills and experience. Dietitians, nutritionists and nutritional therapists may sometimes work in similar areas, but our roles are not interchangeable. There will be situations in which a dietitian is the most appropriate professional, others where a registered nutritionist is best placed to help, and others where the personalised, therapeutic approach of a nutritional therapist may be particularly valuable.

As a CNHC-registered nutritional therapist and BANT member, I believe the public deserves clear, balanced information so that people can make an informed choice about the support they need.

This comparison is intended to support that understanding.

The confusion is their fault.
In the winter this meal will be different. It will change seasonally, some mornings it’s just a coffee, others left over dinner, others mostly meat or fish……

Unleash the shackles of this really harmful ‘eat less move more’ message.

A grown woman who is doing allllll the things - working out, raising kids, being social, working, being a house wife, caring and checking in, thinking about feeding everyone, worrying about how they look, if their thighs jiggle…….

AND WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DO ALL THAT ON 1500 CALORIES A DAY?

Absolutely not.

Have you dieted your calorie needs lower and lower?

For years, the advice was simple:

Eat less. Move more.

So we ate less. Then, when weight loss slowed, we ate even less.

Over time, the body adapts. We may lose muscle, move less without realising, train with less intensity and expend less energy. Hunger can rise while energy and motivation fall.

This doesn’t mean your metabolism is “broken” but it may mean that cutting calories again is not the answer.

Sometimes we need to stop dieting and start rebuilding.

Reverse dieting gradually increases food, with an emphasis on protein, nutrient density and strength training. As nourishment and energy improve, movement and training often become easier too.

You cannot keep asking an undernourished body to do more with less.

If this plate makes you think…

“No thanks… I’d rather have a sandwich and a packet of crisps.”

…then improving your health is likely to feel harder.

Not because you’re weak.
Not because you lack willpower.

But because your brain has learned to seek foods that give quick reward, while foods that nourish your body don’t yet create the same response.

This bowl gives your body:
🥚 Protein to build and repair
🥑 Healthy fats to support hormones and your brain
🥬 Colourful plants to feed your gut microbes and provide the nutrients your cells rely on for energy

The good news?

You don’t have to change everything overnight.

Start by adding before you take away.

Have a small starter salad with a handful of nuts or seeds before one meal each day. Over time, your taste buds, gut microbes and food preferences can begin to change too.

Health isn’t about perfection.
It’s about teaching your body to enjoy nourishing food again.
