📢Join the next APTUK Medication Safety Branch meeting
đź“…Tuesday 25th August 2026
đź•‘7:30pm - 8:30pm

The Branch will be joined by our guest speaker Martin Sadr Kazemi - Deputy Superintendent Pharmacist at Rowlands Pharmacy and Medication Safety Officer & Chair of the Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group (CPPSG).

This session will provide an overview of Look-Alike, Sound-Alike (LASA) medicines, exploring why these medicines present a significant patient safety risk and the factors that contribute to LASA errors in practice. We will review common LASA medicine pairs, examine real case studies and key learning points, and discuss practical strategies to reduce risk at both an individual and system level. The session will also consider the evidence behind Tall Man lettering, highlight available LASA awareness posters and opportunities for promotion, and look ahead to emerging risks, including the impact of distractions in the pharmacy environment. The session will conclude with key takeaways to help pharmacy teams strengthen processes and reduce the likelihood of LASA-related incidents.

🧭 What will the new Post Registration Career Pathway include?
We’re building a UK wide pathway that reflects real pharmacy technician practice, across all sectors and all nations.
Here’s the snapshot 👇
🔹 Clear progression structure
Aligned to the Skills for Health Career Framework (Levels 4–6)
🔹 Four domains of practice
Clinical • Leadership • Education • Research & Improvement
🔹 Capability based development
Describing how practice grows across levels
🔹 Built on evidence
Grounded in the Phase 1 report and mapping of case studies of those in practice
A pathway designed with the profession, for the profession. More updates coming soon as we move towards the September 2026 launch.
