6th September at the Kings Arms, Bagshot (9pm) Melp Co and Kings Arms are hosting a FREE to attend Men’s Mental Health Event. These events run on the first Wednesday of every month and always cover a common mental health or well-being challenge men face.

This month Malcolm (Counsellor and Yoga therapist) will cover procrastination and motivation, something I think we can all struggle with. Malcolm will give some tips and tools to use if you find yourself procrastinating or lacking in motivation.

These events are casual, relaxed and conversational. No pressure to join in, you can just listen for tips.

The challenges faced with mental health in construction are severe and complex. They have been around for a long time and have progressively got worse, and it is time to take an approach that fits the people involved not the people running the organisations.

And what do I mean by that? Well, men in construction face heavy stigma, toxic masculinity and challenging working environments. The usual approach of MHFA, EAP support lines etc won't dent the entirety of this issue, we need to be able to create strategies and implement initiatives designed for men that don't want to reach out, that might not want to share, that no matter how many times you tell them 'it's ok to talk' might not feel that way. To bring them support in the way that they want it rather than pushing them into a box that doesn't fit in order to tick it off!

I really believe this, knowledge and education is key to positive change and really powerful. Equally not getting the education and knowledge is as equally negatively powerful. Something to think about considering that our education system places far greater emphasis on academic intelligence as more important than emotional intelligence.

This goes on further when delivery dates, hiring, hitting targets, making money (and I could go on) is all deemed far more important in the working world than properly educating people and giving them the knowledge they need to thrive emotionally.

These are both areas where huge improvement in knowledge and priority needs to happen. If you are looking to make changes and need some help get in touch (this is what we do) - [email protected]

Do Your Hormones Affect Your Mental Health? - If you’ve ever met a teenager, you’ve likely encountered the result of rampant hormones before. When we go through adolescence our bodies change massively, and one of the things they do is start producing more adult levels of certain hormones. The typical mood swings experienced by teenagers are caused by fluctuations in oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone, and can have a big impact on the way they think and feel, and their moods.

But hormones aren’t just for teenagers. As adults we have hundreds of different hormones in our body, all helping keep our body functioning as it should. They are just chemicals, signalling to your body what you should do and when. And when they get thrown out of sync, they can cause all sorts of problems..............
