Pelvic organ prolapse happens when the support around the pelvic organs weakens, allowing an organ such as the bladder or the bowel to press against the wall of the va**na. The womb itself can also drop lower than usual. It is far more common than many women realise, and it is nothing to feel embarrassed about.
A dragging or heavy feeling is the most common thing women notice. Prolapse can also cause a bulge at the va**nal opening, or changes to how the bladder and bowel empty, such as leaking when you cough or a sense that emptying is not complete. Symptoms vary from one woman to the next, so a proper assessment is the best way to understand what is happening.
Treatment is tailored to you, and surgery is only one option. Pelvic floor physiotherapy and other conservative measures help many women. Mr Morris explains your options in full, including the possible benefits and any risks, before anything is agreed.
If any of this feels familiar, Mr Morris can assess you and explain what might help. Appointments are usually available within 24 to 48 hours, in person or online. Call 020 8371 1510 or visit rapidaccessgynaecology.co.uk to book.
