๐ŸŒŸ New Autism and ADHD Support Hub for Families in North Central London ๐ŸŒŸ

Are you a parent, carer, young person, or professional looking for trusted information on neurodevelopmental needs? The NHS has launched a dedicated Autism and ADHD Neurodevelopmental Site specifically for children and young people aged 0โ€“18 across North Central London.

If you live or work in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, or Haringey, this new platform is designed to help you find the right support at the right time.

๐Ÿ’ป What you can find on the hub:

Things to LEARN: Professional advice, guidance on symptoms, and information on what a diagnosis means for you or your child.

What you can DO: Downloadable neurodevelopmental resources and stories sharing the lived experiences of parents, carers, and young people.

Places to GO: An online calendar to find local support groups, organisations, and guidance on accessing local NHS diagnostic services.

Navigating neurodiversity can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone. Check out the resource today! ๐Ÿ‘‡

The Met Office has issued extreme heat warnings as temperatures are expected to rise significantly across parts of the UK, with the potential for record-breaking June temperatures.
Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people, young children, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions are particularly at risk.

To stay safe:
โ˜€๏ธ Keep out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (11amโ€“3pm)
๐Ÿ’ง Drink plenty of water and avoid becoming dehydrated
๐Ÿ  Keep your home as cool as possible by closing curtains and blinds
๐Ÿ‘’ Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and a hat when outdoors
๐Ÿ‘ต Check on older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable friends
๐Ÿš‘ Seek medical advice if you or someone else becomes unwell due to the heat

Please take care of yourself and others during this period of hot weather.

Looking after your baby or toddlerโ€™s teeth starts earlier than you might think ๐Ÿ’™

You should begin brushing your childโ€™s teeth as soon as their first milk tooth appears. This helps build a healthy routine and protects their teeth from decay ๐Ÿ‘

For babies and toddlers up to age 3:
โ€ข Brush twice a day โ€“ last thing at night and once more during the day
โ€ข Use a smear of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice) with at least 1,000ppm fluoride
โ€ข Gently brush all teeth and gums, even if itโ€™s just a little at first ๐Ÿชฅ

For children aged 3โ€“6:
โ€ข Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste
โ€ข Help them brush until theyโ€™re confident (usually around age 7)
โ€ข Encourage them to spit out toothpaste and not swallow it ๐Ÿ‘

Itโ€™s also important to limit sugary foods and drinks, as these can lead to tooth decay. Water and milk are the best choices for healthy teeth ๐Ÿฅ›

Starting good habits early can make a big difference to your childโ€™s oral health as they grow ๐Ÿ’ซ

Cervical screening can save lives ๐Ÿ’™

Cervical screening (previously called a smear test) is a quick and simple test that checks the health of your cervix and helps prevent cervical cancer ๐Ÿ‘

Itโ€™s offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64, with invitations sent every 5 years ๐Ÿ“…

The test doesnโ€™t check for cancer itself โ€“ it looks for a virus called HPV, which can cause changes to the cells in your cervix. These changes can be treated early to stop cancer developing ๐Ÿ’‰

At your appointment, a small sample of cells is taken from your cervix by a nurse or doctor. It only takes a few minutes, and youโ€™ll be supported throughout to make you as comfortable as possible ๐Ÿค

Even if you feel well and have no symptoms, itโ€™s important to attend your screening when invited โ€“ itโ€™s one of the best ways to protect your health ๐Ÿ’™

Know your skin. It could save your life ๐Ÿ’™

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, but spotting the signs early can make a big difference to treatment and outcomes ๐Ÿ‘

A helpful way to check your moles is the ABCDE checklist:
โ€ข A โ€“ Asymmetry: one half doesnโ€™t match the other
โ€ข B โ€“ Border: edges are irregular, ragged or blurred
โ€ข C โ€“ Colour: uneven or multiple shades
โ€ข D โ€“ Diameter: larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
โ€ข E โ€“ Evolving: changing in size, shape, colour or feeling (e.g. itching or bleeding)

You should contact your GP if:
โ€ข a mole becomes painful, itchy, inflamed, bleeding or crusty
โ€ข you notice a new or unusual mark or lump that doesnโ€™t go away
โ€ข a mole changes or looks different from others

Melanoma can appear anywhere on the body, not just sun-exposed areas, so itโ€™s important to check your skin regularly ๐Ÿ‘€

Menโ€™s Health Week is a great time to learn more about cancers that only affect men ๐Ÿ’™

Some cancers specifically affect men, including prostate, testicular and pe**le cancer. These cancers develop in parts of the male reproductive system and can affect people at different stages of life ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ

For example:
โ€ข Prostate cancer starts in the prostate gland and is the most common cancer in men in the UK
โ€ข Testicular cancer often affects younger men and may present as a lump or swelling
โ€ข Pe**le cancer is rare but can develop on or under the fo****in

Treatments can vary depending on the type and stage of cancer, but may include surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, with support available throughout ๐Ÿ’™

Itโ€™s important to know your body and speak to a healthcare professional if something doesnโ€™t feel right. Early detection can make a big difference ๐Ÿ‘

This message is inclusive of trans women and non-binary people (assigned male at birth), who can also be affected by these cancers and should feel supported to seek advice ๐Ÿ’™
