What kind of goals have you set for yourself today, this week or this month? Do they include goals for your mental health?

We often set goals for our fitness (reaching certain weight or being able to run 5k without stopping), within our jobs (getting a promotion or pay rise) and in our hobbies (learning a new skill by a certain date) - but when it comes to improving your mental health, goals could be what you need to progress.

Want to know how goals could help your mental health? Here's a strategy that can get you started: https://www.psychiatrycentre.co.uk/blog/goal-setting-a-practical-way-to-improve-your-mental-health/

Is there a non-invasive, drug-free option for treating depression?

Depression affects millions of people worldwide, and traditional treatments often involve medication, which may not appeal to everyone. However, there's an alternative: Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS).

Benefits of rTMS:
โ€ข Non-invasive: No surgery or anaesthesia required. It's a safe and well-tolerated procedure.
โ€ข No medication side effects: For those concerned about potential side effects of antidepressant medication, rTMS provides a drug-free alternative.
โ€ข Non-systemic: Unlike medication, rTMS targets the specific brain areas involved in depression, without affecting the entire body.
โ€ข Effective results: Studies have shown significant improvements in mood, reduced symptoms of depression and increased quality of life for many patients undergoing rTMS treatment.

At The London Psychiatry Centre, we offer rTMS treatment administered by experienced professionals. Our team is dedicated to providing personalised care and helping you find relief from depression.

Contact us to learn more about rTMS and how it could be the key to overcoming depression without the use of antidepressants, or read more about rTMS here: https://www.psychiatrycentre.co.uk/repetitive-transcranial-magnetic-stimulation-rtms-clinic/

What does a CAMHS appointment look like?

When a child is referred to us, the procedure is different from that concerning an adult patient.

Our team will discuss the referral before offering an appointment. This appointment may be with any member of our friendly, expert team, depending on the problem being referred.

As appropriate, the clinician would usually see the parent(s) or carer(s) and child together, as well as separately.

Following this, the clinician can offer further sessions with the child, or refer them for a more detailed assessment organised with other members of the CAMHS team.

All of our appointments are carried out in a safe, quiet and comfortable environment.

Could there be a better way to treat bipolar spectrum disorder? At The London Psychiatry Centre, we believe the answer is yes, and weโ€™ve got the data to prove it.

We know how much bipolar spectrum disorder and other mood conditions can affect your ability to live the life you want. But where traditional treatments often fall short - particularly in rapid cycling, subthreshold or treatment-resistant cases - our unique approach offers a new path forward.

Introducing The Zamar Protocolยฎ (Precision guided high-dose thyroid hormones and rTMS protocol): a patented treatment for bipolar spectrum disorder, developed exclusively by Dr Andy Zamar.

This precision-guided programme combines:
๐Ÿ”น High-Dose Levothyroxine (HDL), tailored to your genetics and biochemistry
๐Ÿ”น Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), a drug-free, non-invasive treatment that stimulates the areas of the brain responsible for mood regulation
๐Ÿ”น Targeted cardiac and endocrine assessments for whole-body wellbeing

๐Ÿง  Backed by peer-reviewed evidence, our results speak volumes:
๐Ÿ”น 96.4% of patients experienced full remission (observation period: 2 years)
๐Ÿ”น Most needed just 1โ€“2 medications (vs. 3.8 on average with traditional treatment)
๐Ÿ”น 33% had a disability score of zero post-treatment
๐Ÿ”น Patients recovered after years of unsuccessful treatment elsewhere

Last week, our colleague Ane Macedo attended the Transform Trauma conference at the University of Oxford, where leading voices including Dr Daniel Siegel, Dr Gabor Matรฉ and Dr Tara Swart Bieber explored trauma, attachment, neuroplasticity and the relationship between the brain, body and lived experience.

A recurring theme was the importance of looking beyond symptoms alone. Developmental history, relationships, family environments, culture and experiences of safety can all shape how we respond to the world โ€” while neuroplasticity reminds us that the brain also retains a capacity to adapt.

For mental health professionals, the challenge is turning developing neuroscience into responsible, evidence-informed clinical practice that helps us understand each person more fully.

Weโ€™re grateful for opportunities like this to keep learning, questioning and bringing new perspectives back into our work at The London Psychiatry Centre.

Did you know that a third of Brits will have insomnia at some point in their lives?

Mental health and sleep are linked. If you suffer with poor mental health, this may negatively impact your sleep, and vice versa.

Sleep deprivation can also affect the immune system and cause poor memory, weight gain, high blood pressure and increased risk of diabetes, all of which can, in turn, further impact mental health.

For treatment options, as well as tips for better sleep, read our article: https://www.psychiatrycentre.co.uk/blog/sleep-and-mental-health/
