Spark Of Inner JOY
Every family has its rituals, and if like me you grew up in an Indian household you most likely had rituals that were embedded into daily living.
Some which I took for granted, until I found myself experiencing a spiritual emergence, which back then I labelled as ‘loosing it’ whilst half way around the world.
Going on a journey to find myself, I had never felt more lost!
At a time before wifi and social media I was called to socialise, and being slightly socially awkward, it wasn’t always easy.
I had let go of my regular references, that kept me grounded. I’d left my job coordinating a young mothers outreach project (which I loved), put my belongings into storage, rented out my flat, said goodbye to family and friends, all to have my final year of misbehaving at age 29, before I became a ‘proper adult’ and serious about life.
Then in the middle of this personal crisis, I was met with the familiar scent of incense early in the morning, a yogini neighbour performing her morning ritual clearing the space before class. It was this same friend, who laughed at my ‘final year of misbehaving’ comment and with the cheekiest of expressions said “Thirty is just the beginning of misbehaving”. Little did I know that a decade later id still be on the road, and that she was right!
At that time the scent of incense woke me up, and took me back to my childhood home, where the waft of incense travelled up the stairs in the morning puja.
Witnessing my grandmother sitting silently, singing, chanting, cleansing, dressing and entertaining her deities, every single day, at her private alter in a house full of chaos offered a calming and grounded start to the day.
The concept to looking inward to gain stability, and allowing that to fuel the radiance of the spirit was her seva.
And the work I do today is exactly that - Supporting my clients to build stability within, which nurtures the inner radiance.
What sparks your inner joy? Do you know what brings you joy? How are you nurturing it?
