For non-Anambrarians, let me explain to you why I believe Charles Chukwuma Soludo has been so determined to pull Mr. Peter Obi down.
Back in 2013, when Peter Obi was governor of Anambra State and Victor Umeh was the APGA national chairman, the party conducted a primary election to determine who would fly its flag in the governorship election to succeed Obi.
The contest was reportedly between Willie Obiano and Soludo. According to accounts from that period, Willie Obiano was the preferred candidate of Peter Obi and Victor Umeh, although both candidates were initially allowed to participate in the primary.
When it became apparent that Soludo was gaining ground against their preferred candidate, Obiano, Soludo was reportedly suspended from the process, and Obiano was declared the winner.
That was when Obiano promised Soludo that he would support him to succeed him after his tenure as governor and that his promise was eventually fulfilled.
This is why many people have questioned why Soludo's administration has not pursued a stronger investigation into the finances and administration of the Obiano government, especially given the various allegations surrounding the expenditure of state resources.
For the record, Anambra has historically operated a zoning arrangement involving the three senatorial districts: North, Central and South. Anambra North has not produced a governor for a long time and it was their turn.
Mbadinuju — Anambra South
Chris Ngige — Anambra Central
Peter Obi — Anambra Central
Willie Obiano — Anambra North
Based on the principle of rotation, APGA argued that it was the turn of Anambra North. Allowing Soludo to take over would have meant Anambra South taking the position again, even though one could also argue that Anambra Central had previously produced governors consecutively.
For that reason, APGA reportedly zoned the ticket to the North. Soludo, however, did not step aside, and the party eventually intervened in the process.
So, when I look at some of the attacks coming from the Anambra State government and its supporters, I see them largely through the lens of political rivalry and unresolved disagreements. That is my interpretation, and others are free to disagree.
We are in a democracy, and everyone has the right to support whichever candidate or political party they choose. But let's also play fair politics. Don't deliberately push narratives that cannot be supported by facts.
This is one reason I admire the Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma . The man doesn't talk too much; he acts. I haven't seen him constantly talk down on other politicians.
At this point, Soludo has increasingly become a content-creator governor.
He has acquired more enemies than friends since becoming a governor.
