REVIEW WEEK 🦷✨ |

Have you seen one of these before? Because I hadn’t… 👀

I first spotted the ErgoProx on page and was intrigued enough to give it a try.

Then my lovely patient came along with pretty much the PERFECT space to put it to the test 🙌🏼

And I have to say… I was impressed.

The ergonomic design and gentle bristles make it incredibly easy and comfortable to sweep across a larger interdental space, and you can see in the video just how nicely it adapts to this particular gap.

My verdict? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A really clever little brush and potentially a game changer for the right patient.

BUT, and this is important, it needs the right space.

Interdental cleaning is never one-size-fits-all. The best brush isn’t necessarily the newest, cleverest or most expensive one — it’s the one that fits YOUR spaces properly.

Have you tried the ErgoProx? And have you even seen one before? 👀

💦 YOUR ORAL HEALTH ROUTINE SHOULDN’T TAKE A HOLIDAY JUST BECAUSE YOU DO…

I originally bought this usmile water flosser because I wanted a compact option for travelling.

The unexpected part? It’s now become my main water flosser at home too. 😳

Water flossers can be a really useful addition to your daily oral hygiene routine, particularly if cleaning between or around your teeth is tricky.

They can be especially useful around:

🦷 Dental implants
🦷 Bridges, crowns & veneers
🦷 Fixed braces
🦷 Retainers & orthodontic appliances
🦷 And for anyone who struggles with conventional interdental cleaning

And there is evidence behind them. Research has shown benefits for plaque control and gingival health, while studies in patients with implants and fixed orthodontic appliances have also demonstrated improvements in measures such as plaque, bleeding and inflammation.

So… why this one?

For something designed for travel, I was genuinely surprised by how powerful and high-quality it felt.

But one of my favourite features is much less glamorous: the water tank comes off completely.

That makes it much easier to access, empty, dry and clean properly — something I think is really important with any water flosser.

It’s compact enough to pack, powerful enough that it doesn’t feel like a compromise and, most importantly, means you can keep up the routine you’ve established at home while you’re away.

The Kensington Hygienist verdict?
I bought it for my suitcase. It hasn’t made it back into it yet. 😂

Do you use a water flosser? 💦

🦷 TOOTHPASTE… WITHOUT THE PASTE?

I’ve been trying Pearly Bites toothpaste tablets, and here’s my hygienist’s verdict. 👆🏼

Small, mess-free and incredibly easy to travel with. Research-backed ingredients;

✓ 1,000 ppm fluoride
✓ Hydroxyapatite
✓ Xylitol

I particularly like them as an option for anyone who dislikes the strong mint flavour or foaming sensation of conventional toothpaste, and they’re suitable from age 3+.

Would I swap my usual toothpaste permanently? Watch to find out… 👀

Have you tried toothpaste tablets? Would you make the switch?

Tried by a Hygienist 🦷 | Slate Flosser

Whilst this wouldn’t have been a product I would have thought to use for myself, I have to admit I was impressed by the quality and ease of use.

I have many patients who struggle with floss yet also can’t use interdental brushes. If traditional floss isn’t your thing, could a reusable floss pick make interdental cleaning that little bit easier?

I tried the Slate Flosser to see how it performs in real life — looking at ease of use, portability and sustainability.

My verdict?
If you already prefer floss picks, I can definitely see the appeal of having a reusable option rather than reaching for a disposable one every day, and I love the fact this is free from PFAs/PTFE.

As always, the best interdental cleaner is the one that fits your mouth, your needs, and that you’ll actually use effectively and consistently.

Would I recommend it? Watch to the end for The Kensington Hygienist Verdict 👀

There are certain things we hear in the dental chair time and time again, often shared with a little hesitation or concern about what we might think.

Whether you feel you should have come sooner, have not been as consistent with flossing as you would like, are worried about sensitivity or simply want to understand what can realistically be improved, there is no judgment here.

What you tell us helps us understand your experience, tailor your care and make your appointment feel as comfortable and reassuring as possible.

Above all, every patient is different, as is every mouth, and every appointment should reflect that. Our role is not to make you feel guilty, but to listen, explain, support and help you move forward with practical advice that works for you.

If it is time for your routine hygiene visit, please get booked in by giving us a call on 020 7221 1680, and remember that if there is anything you need to ask while you are in the chair, we want you to feel that you can say it.

We’re not saying never, but awareness is key for smarter sips this summer.

Summer drinks are everywhere right now, and we get it. Cool, refreshing iced coffees, fizzy drinks, sparkling water and energy drinks can all feel very tempting in the heat.

But from a dental point of view, it’s not just what you drink that matters. It’s how often you sip it.

Frequent sipping keeps your teeth exposed to acid and/or sugar for longer, which can soften enamel over time and increase the risk of sensitivity, staining and decay.

So no, you don’t have to avoid every iced drink this summer.

If you are having a higher-risk drink, try to have it with a meal, use a straw where you can, avoid sipping it slowly over several hours, and rinse with water afterwards.

For more tooth-friendly hydration, plain water is always the winner. Unsweetened iced green tea, herbal teas, milk or fortified plant-based milk, and unsweetened coconut water can also be better options when you want something a little different.

Your teeth don’t need perfection; they just need a little protection. 😉

Share this with someone who loves an iced coffee in the sun.

Retainer case reviews, because they are definitely not all created equally.

In today’s quick video, I’m sharing a few retainer and guard cases I’ve been testing for everyday life, school bags and travel.

When choosing a case, I look for a few key things: durability, security and how easy it is to use in real life.

Snap-lock or magnetic close cases can work well, especially for children who are careful with their belongings, and a lanyard can help stop them getting lost.

The Safe Jaws case has a great bright colour and a handy clip, but I found it a little too soft, and it made me worry it could open too easily.

My favourite is the @‌zimadental aluminium travel case with UV sanitising. It is on the pricier side, but it feels sturdy, secure and much more robust and still cheaper than replacing a broken retainer! Perfect choice for kids' expansion plates going into school!

I’ve also been enjoying a deeper Amazon travel case, which is useful for both carrying and cleaning your retainer while you’re away. Ultimately, the best case is the one that protects your retainer, keeps it clean and fits into your routine.

What’s your go-to retainer case?

Brushing your teeth but skipping your tongue?

This might be the step your routine is missing.

Your tongue is one of the biggest reservoirs of bacteria in the mouth. Its tiny grooves can trap bacteria, food debris and dead cells, which can contribute to that coated feeling and bad breath.

As bacteria break down proteins, they produce volatile sulphur compounds, one of the main causes of oral malodour.

That’s why tongue cleaning is such a small but powerful habit. It helps reduce tongue coating, supports fresher breath and can make your mouth feel properly clean, not just brushed.

There are lots of options available, from plastic scrapers to copper and stainless steel. Plastic scrapers are popular, but I personally find them harder to clean and less eco-friendly. Copper and stainless steel options are resilient, recyclable and effective. I also prefer a smooth metal “U” shaped scraper, as it covers more of the tongue and tends to feel more comfortable than sharper designs.

If tongue cleaning isn’t part of your routine yet, this might be your sign to start.
