🩸 Did you know a routine blood test could help detect an infection early?

On 28 July 2026 – World Hepatitis Day, some routine blood tests requested through GP practices in South East London may also include testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.

These infections can sometimes go unnoticed, so testing can play an important role in early diagnosis and getting the right care sooner.

💙 Testing is optional – you can choose to opt out
🔒 Your results will always be confidential
🩺 You can also ask your healthcare team about testing if you would like to be tested

On World Hepatitis Day (28 July), routine blood tests requested at GP practices across South East London may also include screening for:

Early testing can help identify infections sooner, allowing people to access the right care and treatment earlier.

🔒 Your results are confidential.
🙋 Testing is optional – if you do not wish to be tested, simply let your clinician know.

Family Hub Pop-Up – Partnership Launch!

We are pleased to introduce a new partnership between Gallions Reach Health Centre and Children’s Waterways Centre, bringing additional support for families directly into the practice.

From Tuesday 7th April, weekly sessions will be held every Tuesday, offering a friendly drop-in coffee morning with stay-and-play for children under five, as well as practical cooking sessions focused on healthy, affordable meals.

Families will also be able to access support with food through “Heat and Eat” meal packages and seasonal community food bank events. These sessions aim to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where families can connect, access advice, and be signposted to local services.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our Practice Manager, Tuhin Miah, for arranging this valuable partnership for our patients and community.

Jess’s Rule – Supporting Patient Safety

Thamesmead Medical Associates is supporting Jess’s Rule, a national patient safety campaign created in memory of Jessica Brady.

Jess’s Rule encourages doctors and healthcare professionals to pause and review a diagnosis if a patient comes back several times with the same symptoms and they are not improving, or are getting worse. The aim is to make sure patients feel listened to and that concerns are taken seriously if treatment is not helping as expected.

You will see posters about Jess’s Rule in our consulting rooms and waiting areas, and more information is available on our website.

If your symptoms are continuing or worsening despite treatment, please contact us to arrange a further review. It is always okay to come back if you are worried.
