CDS are early pioneers in developing and promoting routine ultrasound assessment of the Fallopian Tubes. A contrast medium, or fluid, is gently flushed through the tubes and visualised using high resolution transvaginal ultrasound scanning.
Initially termed HSS by CDS, the technique is now commonly known as HyCoSy following more recent commercial involvement.
NOTE: It remains of great concern that social media and patient experience report HyCoSy as a “painful” procedure! CDS personnel have carried out thousands of these tubal tests over many decades. Carried out by experienced gynaecologists and ultrasound specialists, we confirm that very, very few patients indeed have suffered from any significant degree of discomfort. We question why so many patients appear to have had such a problem!
HyCoSy procedures at CDS always include a comprehensive gynaecological (transvaginal ultrasound) examination. A (virtual) 3D evaluation of the uterine (womb) cavity and endometrium (lining) can be offered as part of the same procedure if clinically indicated. Patients are welcome and indeed encouraged to arrange a consultation with Mr Bill Smith, Head of CDS in order to address any aspect of the above and for reassurance.
