Did you ever wonder whether you genuinely wanted them… or whether you were taught to want them?

This week in our Homecoming workshop, focusing on compulsory heterosexuality (comphet) and gender norms and how they can shape the way we understand attraction, relationships, femininity, masculinity, and even ourselves.

For many of us who came out later in life, there can be a lot to unpack:

Did I actually want that relationship, or was it simply what I thought I was supposed to want?
Was I attracted to men, or did I learn that male attention was something I should value?
Why did being “a good woman/man” seem to come with such a specific set of rules?
How much of who I thought I was… was shaped by expectations?

And perhaps most importantly:

what happens when we start separating what we genuinely want from what we were taught to want?

This will be a safe space to explore, question, reflect and share without judgement and without needing to have all the answers.

You don’t have to rewrite your whole past. You’re simply allowed to understand it differently.

Being bullied at work/school?

Do your ‘friends’ criticise you and chip away at your confidence by giving ‘advice’?

Have you been dealing with prolonged unemployment or financial insecurity?

Been cheated on?

Your pain doesn’t have to be ‘spectacular’ to be considered significant.

We often dismiss 'Little t' traumas because they aren't single, massive life events. But when they build up over time, the emotional, neurological and physical (the body stores your Ts!) impact is just as severe as a 'Big T' event.

Over time, that heavy buildup often shows up as persistent anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

Your pain is valid, even if it didn't make ‘headlines’

A lot of us spend an enormous amount of time concerning ourselves with how others experience us.

It can sometimes get to a point where we hold other people’s perceptions and opinions of us higher than how we regard ourselves.

Honestly? Who gives a flying eff what they think of you. How people view us is often a projection of how they view themselves.

So, what do you do?

Absolutely nothing. It’s none of your business.

The best thing you can do is work on the relationship you have with yourself. As it improves, you’ll probably not even notice what anyone else thinks about you.

Even though in the grand scheme of things, 6000 views isn’t a lot really but to me it feels like 6 million 🙃

Visibility is definitely something a lot of people struggle with for various reasons. I think I struggle with it in general as well as sexuality.

I’m learning that being ‘q***r’ (or whatever you label yourself as - this just feels comfy for me) doesn’t need validating by anyone other than yourself - making this video reminded me of that.

If you’re questioning, newly out or have been out forever, I see you and you are more than enough ❤️

Fun fact, I’ve actually only ever been to Pride twice! As someone without a solid group of q***r besties, it can be daunting and a bit overwhelming.

Have you ever avoided LGBTQIA+ events because you don’t want to go on your own?

8 days until our next Homecoming event!

If, like me, you discovered your sexuality later in life and don’t feel like there’s anyone you can turn to that ‘gets it,’ then this group might just be for you.

We meet once a month, online, for an hour and discuss various topics that affect us in the community - this week’s focus is on shame.

The group is for all genders and sexual identities that ‘came out’ later in life and there’s no pressure to share.

If you have any questions, please send me a DM.

Tickets are on OutSavvy

Gearing up for another Homecoming workshop on July 11th!

This focus topic will be around navigating any shame carried as a later in life member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

This will be such a wonderful session filled with support and guidance on how manage shame and still feel comfortable and confident in yourself.

I’d love to see you there!
