This room has witnessed so many moments of courage.

Conversations that were difficult to begin.
Tears that had been held back for far too long.
Laughter that took people by surprise.
Long silences where words simply weren’t needed.

It’s a space where you don’t have to pretend you’re okay or have everything figured out.

Whether you’re living with grief, navigating a life change, feeling overwhelmed, or simply want somewhere to pause and make sense of what’s going on, you’re welcome here.

If you’re considering counselling, I offer a free introductory telephone call where we can talk about what has brought you here and whether I’m the right counsellor for you.

📍 In-person counselling in Rugby and Long Buckby, walk and talk sessions around Northamptonshire as well as online and telephone sessions across the UK.

There always seems to be another book to add to the pile… 📚

Here are just a few from my ever-growing “to be read” stack. Some are about counselling, some explore grief, trauma, relationships or the ways we make sense of ourselves and the world around us.

One of the things I love about this work is that there’s always something new to learn. Every book offers a different perspective, and often a new way of thinking about what it means to be human.

Now I’m curious…

What are you reading at the moment?

Whether it’s fiction, psychology, self-development or something completely different, I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Happy Saturday! ☀️

Are you looking for counselling in or around Rugby?

Hi, I’m Georgina. I know that taking the first steps into counselling isn’t always easy. One of the questions I am often asked is ‘What will our sessions look like?’ So I thought I’d show you the room here in Rugby that I use…

I’ve been making kombucha this weekend.

It’s one of those processes you can’t rush. You prepare it, look after it, then mostly… leave it alone.

It struck me how uncomfortable we can be with that idea. We often want immediate answers or quick fixes, yet so much of life, healing included, happens gradually, often without us noticing until we look back.

Sometimes growth is quietly happening beneath the surface.

Summer doesn't always feel easy.☀️

For some people, summer brings lightness, longer days and time spent outdoors.

For others, it can bring different feelings.

You might notice more pressure around body image as lighter clothing and social media feed comparisons become harder to avoid.

You may be grieving someone who should be here to share this season with you, or finding that sunny days somehow make their absence feel even more noticeable.

Perhaps you're feeling lonely as everyone else seems to be out enjoying themselves, while you're struggling to connect or simply getting through each day.

The longer days can mean more invitations, more expectations and more socialising than feels comfortable, leaving you feeling emotionally drained rather than refreshed.

Some people find themselves worrying about the environment too, as each summer seems to bring another record-breaking temperature, wildfire or extreme weather event. It's understandable if that uncertainty feels difficult to hold.

And for many parents and carers, the summer holidays bring a different kind of pressure altogether. Alongside wanting to create happy memories, there can be the financial strain of childcare, activities and days out, as well as the emotional and mental load of keeping everyone occupied while trying to balance work, home and your own wellbeing.

Whatever summer looks like for you, your experience doesn't have to match anyone else's.

There is no "right" way to feel simply because the sun is shining.

If this season feels heavy rather than carefree, you're not alone. Sometimes the most compassionate thing we can do is acknowledge where we are, rather than where we think we should be.

When summer feels overwhelming, I’ve always found something reassuring about nature. Not because it fixes everything, but because it asks nothing of us. Trees don’t expect us to be happy because it’s sunny. They simply offer shade, steadiness and somewhere to pause.

💙 If any part of this resonates with you, I'd love to know. What do you find most challenging about summer?

At the end of May, I was out on a walk when I happened upon something rather special.

Thousands of mayflies were dancing above the water. For a few brief hours, they filled the air, moving together in a display that has been happening every spring for thousands of years. I hadn’t planned to see them. I couldn’t have made them appear. I was simply in the right place at the right time.

It reminded me how much of life exists outside our control.

We can’t control the weather, other people’s choices, unexpected change, loss, illness, or whether life unfolds in the way we hoped it would.

What we can influence is often quieter.
We can choose how we respond.
We can notice the small moments of beauty that appear unexpectedly.
We can care for ourselves, ask for support, rest when we need to, and return our attention to what matters most.

Sometimes our minds become so busy trying to manage everything outside of us that we lose sight of the things that are still within our reach.

The mayflies didn’t arrive because I planned perfectly. They arrived because nature follows its own rhythm. All I could do was be present enough to witness it.

Perhaps that’s an invitation for all of us.

To loosen our grip on what cannot be controlled.
To gently reconnect with what can.
And to remain open to the unexpected moments of beauty that life sometimes offers when we’re simply present enough to notice them.

What is one thing that feels within your control today?

💙 The calming power of blue spaces

A fascinating article in The Guardian today explores the growing interest in blue space therapy and the positive impact that spending time near water can have on our mental wellbeing.

Whether it’s the sea, a lake, a river, a canal or even a quiet reservoir, many people describe feeling calmer, more grounded and better able to think clearly after spending time around water. While research is still evolving, it’s encouraging to see increasing evidence supporting what so many of us already experience - that nature, and especially water, can play a valuable role in supporting our wellbeing.

This is one of the reasons I love offering Walk & Talk Therapy. Here in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire we’re fortunate to have access to beautiful rivers, lakes, canals and reservoirs, allowing clients the opportunity to talk whilst immersed in a natural environment.

For some people, walking side by side outdoors feels less intense than sitting face to face in a therapy room. The gentle rhythm of walking, fresh air, green surroundings and the presence of nearby water can help create space to reflect, process emotions and simply breathe.

Of course, being near water isn’t a replacement for therapy, but it can be a wonderful setting in which therapy takes place.

If you’ve ever noticed yourself feeling lighter after a walk by the water, you’re certainly not alone.

What blue space helps you feel most at peace? 💙
