Sunshine, school, sports, screens… little eyes work hard too! ☀️📚⚽📱

Miss V came in for an eye examination and needed an updated prescription. She decided to make the most of her second pair and chose some fabulous prescription sunglasses 😎

Now she’s seeing clearly whatever the weather, and we have to admit… she looks very grown up! 💕
Children don’t always realise when their vision isn’t as clear as it should be, which is why regular eye examinations are so important.

(While you're busy coming up with those, we're spending our final day learning alongside fantastic independent optometrists from across the UK and Ireland before heading back to Long Stratton with lots of new ideas for the practice.)

👓 We're in Liverpool! 👓

A quick reminder that Long Stratton Eyecare will be closed on Monday and Tuesday this week while our team attends our annual training event alongside fantastic independent optometrists from across the UK and Ireland.

Why? Because the world of eyecare is always evolving, and we want to make sure we're evolving with it. We'll be learning, sharing ideas and picking up new ways to help look after our patients even better.

And once school's out, we'll be taking in a bit of Liverpool too with the Beatles Experience... a part of the trip Paula & Karen are particularly looking forward to! 🎶😊

Fed up of forgetting your sunglasses? 😎

What does dry eye actually look like? 👀💧

This image shows the surface of an eye using a special dye that highlights the tear film.

See the dark streaks near the top? That’s where the tears are already breaking up — even just after a blink — which is a sign of dry eye.

We should blink around 15-20 times a minute, but when using screens or concentrating, this can drop dramatically. Less blinking means the tears aren’t spread properly across the eye, leading to tired, stingy or irritated eyes.

The glowing green dots along the lower lid are oil glands which produces an oil layer to coat the front of the tears and stop them evaporating too quickly. When these become blocked, dry eye symptoms can get worse.

The good news? Dry eye is extremely common and there are lots of ways we can help make your eyes feel more comfortable 💙

This is why we do what we do 🥹💙

We recently received this beautiful thank you card from a patient we referred for treatment — and honestly, moments like these make every day worthwhile.

This patient was especially touched because we were with her throughout the process, fighting to help her get the treatment she needed — and we did get there !

As a small independent practice, we genuinely care about our patients and are with them every step of the way. Going through this journey together, she’s become more than just a patient — she’s a friend to both me and the practice ❤️

She also brought chocolates… although they disappeared a little too quickly for a photo 🍫😂

A routine eye examination is about far more than reading letters on a chart 👀 Your eyes can reveal early signs of health conditions including glaucoma, diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, neurological conditions and more.

Never underestimate the importance of regular eye tests — they really can change lives.
