A bit of a busman’s holiday… 👓

Optometrist through and through, I’m afraid. Put me in a museum and I’ll somehow find the spectacles, glass eyes and optical history! 👀

But look what I found… Gibson & Son – Chemists & Opticians.

Just look at that shopfront! The dark wood, gold lettering and all those beautiful little details. And I absolutely love the “Sight Testing Rooms” door. 👀

There was a time when chemists and opticians were much more closely linked — and this was such a gorgeous little glimpse into that history.

And with our new premises currently taking shape… I may have been taking a little inspiration! 😉

Thankfully, eyewear has come a long way too… 😂👓

The shopfront, the signwriting and that door? Absolutely.

The glasses? Perhaps we’ll leave those in the museum. 😂

Meet Crystal 👋🏼

You may have already spotted Crystal in some of our photos from Liverpool… 👀

She’s actually been part of the Long Stratton Eyecare team for a few months now, but we wanted to give her a little time to settle in before introducing her properly!

Crystal is our Resident Optometrist and will be with us every Friday. 🎉

As our practice continues to grow, I’m really passionate about building a strong team around us. Having another permanent optometrist means that, if for any reason I can’t be in the practice, I know my patients are still in very capable hands.

Crystal and I met through a mutual friend — another optician, of course! Small world indeed. 😂 When we met, we discovered that we’d actually been to the same university, although we didn’t know each other back then!

Crystal started her career as a Dispensing Optician before retraining as an Optometrist. After taking some time out to raise her boys, she decided it was time to return to practice. She first came to us as a patient, and we’re now very happy to have her as part of the team!

She’s incredibly thorough, kind and has a lovely way of putting people at ease. She’s also hoping to move closer to the area, so you may find her picking your brains about the best places to live, eat and explore! 😂

We’re so pleased she’s joined our team, and we’re really looking forward to you getting to know her too.

👀 We have a little secret to share…

Long Stratton Eyecare is moving! 📦🚚

Before the end of the year, we’ll be relocating just up the road into The Old Post Office, next door to The Queen’s Head.

Anyone who has visited us will know we’re a pretty close-knit team - quite literally! 😂 Our current practice is definitely on the cosy side, so we’re VERY excited to be getting some more space.

There’s lots to do before then, paintbrushes and moving vans at the ready! And you’ll probably see us carrying furniture across the road looking like the Chuckle Brothers…

“To me… to you…” 😂📦

The new practice will be bigger, disabled accessible and with parking nearby, so there’s lots to look forward to.

It’s going to be hard work, but we’re so excited for this next chapter. ❤️

💌 Thank-you cards really do mean so much 🥰

This lovely card was waiting for me today from a patient I recently examined. Knowing that I was able to make even a small difference to someone and help make their experience a little less worrying is exactly why so many of us choose to work in healthcare.

One of the things I love most about being an independent practice is that we can tailor your experience to you.

Easy as ABC… well, maybe not when you’re little! 👀

We know an eye examination can feel a little clinical or daunting — especially when there’s the worry of getting an answer wrong!

That’s why we do everything we can to make children’s eye examinations fun, relaxed and age-appropriate.

Our test chart can easily be changed from letters to shapes, helping little ones feel more confident telling us what they can see.

And whilst we’re keeping things fun, we can still thoroughly investigate any concerns and take care of their eyes. 👀

Whether they see Sarah-Jane or Crystal for their eye examination, they’ll be greeted with a friendly face, plenty of patience and an age-appropriate approach.

👀Occasionally I escape the dark room… but I’m still invested in eyecare! 🤓

I’ve been having a lovely day at Chelsea Physic Garden- and naturally, my optom brain couldn’t completely switch off!

It’s called a Physic Garden because “physic” was the old term for medicine and healing.

I spotted this sign about some of the plants historically used to treat eye disorders. It’s interesting to see how some of those old plant remedies are, thankfully, firmly in the past… while other plants, or derivatives from them, are still used to make medicines we use in eye care today. 👀🌿

Whilst some plants, or derivatives from them, are still used to make medicines today, many are poisonous in their natural form — so please don’t be tempted to try any garden-based eye remedies!

We’re closed on Monday for the August Bank Holiday and will be back open from 10am on Tuesday.
