🌻 What day is it again 🌻

Apparently the summer holidays are six weeks of fun, freedom and making memories. That’s an interesting way of describing it…and seemingly ignores all the behind the scenes chaos!

There is SO much tiny, invisible admin involved in having children at home all day. Things you don’t even realise you’re keeping track of, and then it hits you that you’ve apparently been running a small logistics company from the kitchen.

Anyway.

If you’re currently spending your days feeding people, finding things, mediating disputes, answering questions and wondering when the bloody water bottle was last washed 🌚

I see you šŸ˜‚šŸŒ»

ā€˜They’ve had a lovely summer’ is doing A LOT of heavy lifting here!

🌻 Your choices are yours 🌻

Something I really wish more people knew before birth is that you can change your mind, about pretty much anything.

You can be completely sure you want something, agree to it, and then decide actually…no. You don’t want that anymore. That’s okay.

Your consent is yours throughout - and you don’t owe politeness or obedience.

Your midwife or doctor can recommend something, explain why they think it’s a good idea, tell you about the risks and benefits and explain what might happen if you say no. But you are still the person who gets to decide what happens to your body.

So if you’re told you need a VE before you can use the pool, for example, you are allowed to say no to the VE. You might then be told that they can’t offer you the pool without it, and that’s just the beginning of a conversation…not the end.

And if you’ve already said yes to something? You can change your mind about that too.

You don’t need to have a better reason than ā€œactually, I don’t want to anymoreā€.

You don’t hand over your autonomy when you walk through those hospital doors…though it can feel that way (and I’ve been there).

The five statements above are just examples - your whole journey is yours šŸ’›

🌻 A few little holiday moments 🌻

Because, as we all know by now, the camera tends to come out during the calm bits šŸ˜†

The rest involved negotiations, dysregulation, snacks, suncream, and approximately 47 reminders to wear shoes.

Beautiful? Absolutely.

Relaxing? Let’s not get carried away šŸ˜‚šŸŒ» if anyone needs me - I’ll be recovering until Christmas (ish) x

🌻 Right…hear me out 🌻

I’m home from holiday and currently avoiding approximately 17 loads of washing, so naturally I’ve had a little thought…

My very first pregnancy relaxation circle is next week, and I’d genuinely really love a few more local mums-to-be to experience it.

So, until Sunday evening, I’m taking Ā£5 off every ticket.

If you’ve looked at it before and thought…

ā€œThat actually sounds quite niceā€¦ā€

…but just haven’t got round to booking, this is your little nudge šŸ’›

I didn’t create this with the intention to fill a room. I created it because pregnancy can feel a lot, and I wanted to offer a couple of hours where nobody expects anything from you šŸ«¶šŸ¼

A comfy space, low pressure chat, a cuppa & yummy snacks, a guided relaxation and a chance to properly exhale for a bit.

And because fairness matters to me, my lovely ladies who’ve already booked will be getting the same Ā£5 back too 🌻

If you’re pregnant, local and fancy joining us next week, I’d absolutely love to see you there. The booking link is in my bio, but if you’ve got any questions at all, my inbox is always open 🄰

🌻 Confession time 🌻

I began organising a pregnancy relaxation circle…then took myself on ā€˜holiday’ with two children šŸ˜†ā˜€ļø

The irony has not been lost on me.

Between negotiating over suncream / hat wearing, trying to make sure everyone is eating & drinking, and discovering that someone (mercifully not one of mine) had caused a poo(l) evacuation… I’ve spent the week thinking:

ā€˜Maybe I could do with a relaxation evening too’ šŸ¤”šŸ¤£

Joking aside…the whole reason I created this wasn’t because I think pregnant folk need to be told to ā€˜just relax’ (if only it was that simple). It’s because I know how loud life can feel.

Sometimes having permission to stop, drink a cup of tea, breathe, and not have anyone need anything from you for a couple of hours is actually quite a big deal.

So…if you’re local, pregnant, and fancy joining me (I’ll be the one hoping nobody mentions suncream šŸ™ƒ), I’d genuinely love to see you there!

And if nothing else…at least one of us will leave feeling relaxed šŸ˜‰

🌻 Gold Stars 🌻

As the school year comes to an end, I’m sure you’ll be seeing lots of flowers, chocolates and thank you cards for teachers and school staff. And they deserve every single one, truly šŸ’›

But I also wanted to acknowledge the parents (and especially the mums who so often carry the invisible load).

The ones who remembered it was non-uniform day.

Packed the lunches.

Signed the permission slips five minutes before leaving the house.

Found the missing PE kit.

Held it together on the school run when things felt really hard.

Remembered World Book Day.

Forgot World Book Day…and somehow styled it out anyway šŸ˜…

Juggled work, appointments, clubs, homework, emotional breakdowns, washing, snacks and approximately 47 water bottles.

Whether this year has felt joyful, relentless, or a bit of both…you deserve a little recognition too.

So here’s your gold star ⭐ from one knackered parent to another…

I see you.

And I think you’re doing far better than you probably give yourself credit for šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸŒ»

🌻 ā€˜Just a sweep’ - let’s talk about it 🌻

I saw a conversation online recently about membrane sweeps and, as is often the case with anything pregnancy-related, the comments got me thinking.

Because I wonder how many people are offered a sweep and think: ā€˜Oh…okay. That’s just the next thing that happens’.

And I do get it (I’ve had them). When you’re 39, 40, 41 weeks pregnant, tired, uncomfortable and desperate to meet your baby…any suggestion of ā€˜helping things along’ can feel really appealing.

But I think it’s important that we remember the word ā€˜just’.

A membrane sweep is still an intervention intended to encourage labour and ā€˜hurry’ things along. And it’s not my job to tell you whether you should or shouldn’t.

For some people, it will absolutely feel like the right decision. But I do think we deserve to know what we’re saying yes to.

Things like:

šŸ’› How likely is it to work in my situation?

šŸ’› What might I feel afterwards? (Cramping can happen, and sometimes it can be difficult to know whether your body is gearing up for labour or whether your cervix is simply miffed at having been irritated).

šŸ’› What happens if it doesn’t work?

šŸ’› What are my other options?

Because a sweep isn’t a *magic* button. (Annoying, I know. Pregnancy really could have done with a few more ā€˜easy mode’ settings šŸ˜‚)

It’s a choice. And choices work best when they come with information, not pressure. Whether you decide yes, no, or ā€˜can I think about it?’ - that is your decision to make.

Your body. Your baby. Your choices 🌻

🌻 Pregnancy Relaxation Circle 🌻

If the words ā€˜Pregnancy Relaxation Circle’ make you imagine sitting in a circle introducing yourself while everyone politely nods…I get it…and honestly, I’d rather stay at home too 🤣

So here’s what won’t happen…

āŒ No awkward icebreakers

āŒ No being put on the spot

āŒ No ā€œtell us an interesting fact about yourselfā€

Instead…

🌻 Arrive

ā˜• Grab a drink and a snack

šŸŖ‘ Find a comfy spot

šŸ¤ Chat if you fancy it…or don’t. Both are completely acceptable!

✨ We’ll spend some time slowing everything down with a guided relaxation

šŸš— Then you’ll head home feeling like you’ve actually exhaled for the first time that week

Or wondering why on earth you trusted someone who gives out Employee of the Month awards to herself šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ†šŸ¤£

Pregnancy is noisy and relentless…this is just a couple of hours where nobody expects anything from you.

You don’t need to be good at ā€˜relaxing’ or ā€˜breath work’. Just come exactly as you are šŸ’›
