🌞 A Sky‑Watching Moment to Remember! 🌘✨

What an extraordinary event the whole world had been waiting for — the national fenomeno of the solar eclipse.
Here in the UK we only experienced a partial eclipse, but our residents were still full of excitement! For safety, we couldn’t watch it directly as it happened, so instead we enjoyed looking back at the famous 1999 full eclipse, which many of our residents remember seeing so clearly. It brought back wonderful memories and great conversations.

✨ 12 August 2026 was a truly special day, with three incredible sky events happening at once:

• the solar eclipse
• the planet alignments
• the shooting stars

We hope you all had a chance to look up and enjoy our beautiful sky too.

Yesterday during our coffee morning, the residents loved reading all about it in the newspaper and sharing their own memories. A lovely moment of curiosity, connection, and conversation.

🐢 Treasure’s Room-to-Room Adventures

This week our lovely tortoise Treasure went on a special visit around Woodland Grove, popping into residents’ rooms and strolling through the corridors. Everyone absolutely loved watching him explore — his gentle steps, curious nature, and calm presence brought so much joy.

Residents were delighted to observe him walking around their space and gave him all the attention he could ever wish for. It’s always amazing to see how much they care about him and how much he has grown. Treasure truly brings a unique kind of happiness to our home.

🌅On a particularly hot day, residents took part in a creative activity where they decorated blank handheld fans using coloured pens and stick-on sequins.

Everyone enjoyed choosing their own colours and decorations to create unique designs, and staff provided support where needed to ensure all residents were able to participate.

The activity encouraged creativity, conversation, and social interaction while providing a practical item that residents could use to help keep cool ☀️☀️☀️

🎄✨ Christmas in July at Woodland Grove! ✨🎄

On the weekend our lovely residents enjoyed a joyful Christmas in July celebration in the bistro, filled with festive fun and wonderful company. Some residents relaxed in the garden soaking up the sunshine, while others settled in for a cosy Christmas classic — Miracle on 34th Street — with plenty of hot and cold drinks and delicious cake to enjoy.

Creative spirits were high with Christmas‑themed crosswords and festive colouring, offering a calm and cheerful activity for those who fancied something hands‑on.

The bistro was full of laughter and warmth as crackers were pulled, party hats worn, and a sprinkle of Christmas magic shared throughout the afternoon. A truly delightful mid‑summer celebration that brought smiles all around.

Residents enjoyed a wonderful Peru Day filled with learning, conversation, and delicious treats. We watched a fascinating travel documentary about Peru, giving everyone the opportunity to discover the country's beautiful landscapes, culture, history, and tradition.

While the documentary was playing, Frankie baked delicious Peruvian biscuits in the bistro, filling the home with wonderful aromas.

To finish the activity, everyone took part in a fun Peru quiz, testing how much they had learned from the documentary. Residents enthusiastically shared their answers and enjoyed friendly discussion, making it an engaging and enjoyable way to end our Peru Day.

We had a lovely coffee & cake afternoon yesterday in support of St Clare Hospice. Nancy very kindly joined us and drew the raffle which has raised over £130. Our lovely resident Edna won the hamper and was delighted. Thank you to everyone who supported this by buying tickets 👏

What an incredible evening our residents enjoyed at the concert in Chelmsford at Old Park Meadow Natural!
The singer put on a fantastic show, and our residents loved singing along and dancing to beautiful songs from the 50s.
A huge thank you to the Old Park Meadow team for inviting us — it was a truly special event for everyone.
