Ever wonder why we’re called the "Halfway House"? 📍🤔

Back in the 1800s, this property was built as a traditional brick farmhouse acting as a rural waypoint. Sitting right on the boundary between the parishes of Stewton and Legbourne along the B1200, we were exactly "halfway" between the bustling market town of Louth (the Capital of the Wolds) and the coastal marsh farming villages!

For over a century, local livestock drovers, traders, and farmsteads used this spot as a recognizable landmark on their journey to the coast. Today, we're still the perfect halfway point for a peaceful getaway! 🌾🚐

Lincolnshire is known as "Bomber County," and a 30-minute drive southwest through the countryside brings you to one of its most charming historic villages.

🚨 NEW EPISODE — ARE CAMPSITE OWNERS REALLY GREEDY? 🚨

We’ve all seen the comments…

“Campsites are getting too expensive!”
“Owners must be making a fortune!”
“It’s only a patch of grass!”

So, in this week’s Behind the Pitches, we sit down and look at the real maths behind the price of a campsite pitch.

Electricity, water, waste, insurance, maintenance, booking fees and all the little costs guests never normally see — where does the money actually go?

Are campsite owners ripping people off… or are we doing it very wrong? 😂

Watch EP38 now and let us know what you think is a fair price for a campsite pitch. 👇

Look up! Our skies have some serious history. ✈️☁️

While our site has always been a peaceful rural retreat, the skies above us used to be incredibly busy! From 1938 to 1974, Halfway House sat directly under the flight path for the famous RAF Manby.

During WWII, we would have seen Wellingtons and Lancasters flying low right over our willow copse on their way to the coastal firing ranges. In the 60s, it was the roar of Cold War jets and the RAF’s "Macaws" aerobatic team practicing their loops!

Next time you’re relaxing on your pitch with a drink, raise a glass to the history right above your head! 🍻

🌳 The Secret Behind Our Willow Woods! 🪵Next time you take a stroll to the rear of the Halfway House site, take a look at the beautiful copse of willow trees planted near the boundary. They aren't just there to look pretty! 🕵️‍♂️Historically, smallholders planted these willow copses for two vital reasons:🪓 Wood Cutting: It provided a fast, renewable source of firewood and materials for traditional basket weaving.💧 Nature's Sponge: Willow trees absorb massive amounts of water, acting as a brilliant natural drainage system to keep the grazing meadows flat, dry, and lush! It's amazing how much historic engineering goes into a simple country field! 🌿

🗺️ CAMPERS' CHALLENGE: Can you find the 1,000-Year-Old Window? ⛪Looking for a beautiful, quick walk right from your pitch? Turn down the quiet country lane right at the Halfway House junction and head into tiny Stewton.Tucked away in the fields is St. Andrew’s Church—a stunning little greenstone building that dates back to before the Norman Conquest of 1066! 📜What to look for when you get there:🔍 On the south side of the building, look closely for the narrow Saxon lancet window—carved over a thousand years ago.🔍 Walk inside to stand underneath the massive Norman chancel arch dating back to the early 1100s.It is incredibly peaceful, dog-friendly, and the perfect slice of history to explore before heading back for dinner. Have you found it yet? 👇
