The summer solstice on 21st June marks the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Although daylight will now begin to shorten gradually, June and July offer some of the most extended and pleasant conditions for being active outdoors.
Research published by Public Health England has highlighted that people in the UK are meaningfully more physically active during summer months, with outdoor walking in particular increasing substantially when the weather and light allow.
This seasonal shift is one to embrace. The spine and joints respond well to variety in movement.
The change from sitting-heavy winter routines to more outdoor activity helps reduce stiffness, supports circulation and engages the muscles that keep the body upright and comfortable.

Start gently, build steadily, and enjoy the long evenings while they last.
