Why do you have soft tissue/sports massage treatments?

I have sports massage as part of a management plan to manage chronic pain from fibromyalgia. I get muscle armouring & it helps ease this.

What techniques do you think are most effective during the treatments and how do you think it helps you?

Myofacial release is the most effective, my muscles get really tight and this can cause stiffness & numbness in my arms and legs. The treatment helps alleviate this.

Do you do anything else to compliment your massage treatments?

Yes I do yoga, gentle exercise & lots of walking. I also do other practices to help calm my nervous system to relax the muscles such as EFT tapping, meditation etc. Emotional freedom technique (EFT), is a therapy for anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and some other conditions.
The theory is tapping on different parts of the body helps balance energy and reduce physical and emotional pain.

I see quite a few people who suffer from fibromyalgia. It can be very debilitating. What advice would you give to anyone who is suffering from it?

My understanding of it, is it is caused by living in fight and flight for too long until your nervous system is overwhelmed & the symptoms are a physical manifestation of this. You can’t think your way out of it, your have to address it at its core I.e your hyperactive nervous system. Therefore it is very stress sensitive. Doing small things every day to help calm your nervous system will help.

Thanks Karen that's very interesting!
