“Why are your classes so different?”

Because this is all I know.

I’ve spent over 12 years working in Montessori and early years education. For me, creating a prepared environment, observing children, following their interests and trusting them to learn through exploration isn’t something I’ve added to a class…

It’s how I’ve always worked.

I don’t know how to create loud, fast-paced sessions where every child is expected to do the same thing at the same time.

I know how to prepare an environment that invites curiosity.

I know how to step back and let a child discover something for themselves.

I know that babies learn by watching before they join in.

I know that toddlers need freedom with gentle boundaries.

And I know that parents deserve to be part of that journey too.

Miss Laura Jane’s Montessori isn’t different because I’m trying to be.

It’s different because it’s a reflection of everything I’ve learnt, believed in and lived throughout my career.

Whether I’m Miss Laura or Aunty Laura, one thing never changes… I’m always prepared. 🤍

Having a wide variety of resources means I can follow children’s interests in the moment, keep little minds engaged, encourage creativity, develop fine and gross motor skills, spark conversations, and support learning through play.

✨ One piece of advice that has stayed with me throughout my early years career…

Always keep something in your pocket.

A puppet, a feather, a scarf, a tiny prop… you never know when one small thing will turn a tear into a smile, spark a child’s curiosity, or create a moment they’ll never forget.

Sometimes, the biggest magic comes from the smallest things. 💛

Who knew a manual shredder could be this much fun?

Not only do children love turning the handle and watching the paper transform, they’re strengthening hand muscles, coordination and concentration at the same time.

And the best bit? Don’t throw the shredded paper away! Reuse it for collages, sensory trays, junk modelling or other creative art activities.

A win for them… and a win for you.
