September brings a shift.

The kids go back. The routine changes. The long summer days that gave you a bit of breathing space suddenly disappear.

For a lot of dads, this time of year brings a specific kind of pressure, financial, logistical, emotional.

New school year costs. Kids who are anxious. Juggling work around drop-offs and pick-ups.

And most men carry that quietly. Getting on with it. Not saying it’s hard.

It’s hard.

If this time of year always feels heavier, you’re not imagining it, and you don’t have to carry it without saying so.

Talk to someone. Even just naming it helps.

Weekend’s here. Here are 5 things worth doing, all free, all proven to support your mental health:

1. Get outside before 10am, morning light regulates your mood and sleep cycle. Even 15 minutes counts.

2. Call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, not a text. A call. Five minutes is enough.

3. Move your body in a way that doesn’t feel like exercise, a walk, a kickaround, the garden. Just move.

4. Eat one proper meal, sit down, no screen, actually taste it. Your brain needs fuel.

5. Do one thing just for you, something you enjoy. Not productive. Not useful. Just yours.

That’s it. That’s a good weekend.

August.

Summer’s still here but September is on the horizon, and for us that means one thing.

September 19th. Our annual awareness event. Seven weeks away.

We’re building something this year that’s bigger than last. More men. More voices. More brothers in one place, showing up for each other.

But before we get there, August matters too.

Walk & Talk is running this month.

But if things feel heavy as summer starts to wind down, we’re not going anywhere.

One month at a time. One day at a time.

July is nearly done.

Summer is tipping towards September.

The days are still long but the evenings are starting to turn.

This is the time of year when things can quietly start to feel heavier for some men. The structure of summer falling away. Kids going back. Darker mornings on the horizon.

We see it. We know it. We’re here for it.

September 19th is six weeks away. Walk & Talk is every month.

If August gets hard, we’re not going anywhere.

Last year over 80 men came. This year we want more.

If you’re a man, come.
If you know a man who needs this, bring him.
If you’ve been on the fence, this is the one.

Full details dropping soon. Follow us so you don’t miss them.

Something is happening in Beds and Herts.

Men are showing up.

Every month, men lace up and walk together. They talk about things that they may never had said out loud before. They leave lighter than they arrived.

Over 80 men came to our first annual event. Men who had never done anything like it before.

And the community keeps growing here, on the paths, in the conversations that carry on after the walk ends.

We built Brother to Brother because we lost people. Because we knew what silence does.

What we didn’t fully know is what happens when men are given somewhere to go.

This. This is what happens.

Thank you for being part of it.

Summer can be tough.

Everyone looks like they’re barbecuing with twenty mates, going on holidays, making memories.

For some men it just highlights what isn’t there. The friendships that have drifted. The family situations that are complicated. The fact that a sunny day can somehow make you feel more alone, not less.

If that’s you right now, you’re not broken. You’re not failing at summer.
Loneliness doesn’t take a season off. And it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

You’re welcome at Walk & Talk. You’re welcome in this community.
You don’t need a reason beyond needing some company

Anger gets a bad reputation.

And for good reason, it can cause real damage.

But for a lot of men, anger is the only emotion they were ever taught to show. Sadness got dismissed. Fear got laughed at.
Vulnerability got punished.

So everything, grief, shame, fear, loneliness, came out as anger.

If you’ve ever snapped at someone you love and not known why. If you’ve ever felt rage that seemed bigger than the situation. If you’ve ever felt like something underneath the anger was trying to get out.

That’s not you being difficult. That’s years of carrying something with no way to put it down.

Anger is almost never the whole story. Underneath it, there’s usually something that just needed to be heard.
