The North East Su***de Prevention team would like to invite you to an event on World Su***de Prevention Day at Elgin FC. The aim of the event is to change the narrative surrounding su***de and to encourage open and honest conversations around su***de within our communities.

Despite Louise leaving us on Tuesday, her passion for su***de prevention meant she was back delivering ASIST training in Moray on Wednesday and Thursday.

Alongside Lindsay from Moray Council, they delivered to a group of Quarriers staff from across Moray.

Some really passionate conversations about su***de prevention and 17 new ASIST caregivers throughout our communities in Moray.

Yesterday, Tracy and Cat delivered Wave after Wave training in Aberdeen.

Wave after Wave equips people to offer a compassionate and supportive response to someone who has been bereaved by su***de.

As you can imagine, this type of training is often punctuated by deeply personal experiences. The group did a fantastic job of supporting one another throughout the day, creating a safe environment for learning.

We welcomed attendees from SAMH, Aberdeen Cyrenians, and a couple who rescue dogs and match them with people experiencing mental health challenges. We also had a tattoo artist in attendance who spoke about how, after spending hours with clients, they often hear about the difficulties and trauma people have faced in their lives.

We’ve previously delivered training to tattoo artists, hotel and bar staff, and hairdressers. If your job involves building relationships and having meaningful conversations with people, but you don’t necessarily see yourself as working in su***de prevention, we’d love to hear from you. Where possible, we can support you with training or provide resources that may help you make a real difference when someone needs it most.

Today’s team get together was a bittersweet one as we said goodbye to Louise, who is moving on after five and a half years with the team.

Louise joined us as our Su***de Prevention Development Officer at a time when the world felt incredibly uncertain, and su***de prevention work across Grampian was still developing, with services and approaches varying considerably across the region. Through her dedication, expertise and compassion, she has helped shape the work we do today.

During her time with us, Louise has delivered su***de prevention training to thousands of people across communities, workplaces and organisations. She has led the development of our su***de review process and played a key role in strengthening the infrastructure, partnerships and guidance that now support su***de prevention across Grampian. Her impact will continue to be felt long after her departure.

Louise will be greatly missed, both professionally and personally. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has contributed and wish her every success and happiness in the next chapter of her career.

We held today’s meeting at the beautiful Tarlair open air swimming pool, where the volunteer run café provided a warm welcome and spectacular views across the sea. More than once, our conversations were happily interrupted by pods of dolphins passing by, a fitting reminder to pause and appreciate the moment. If you haven’t visited Tarlair, it’s well worth a trip.

It’s National Wellbeing Week this week. National Wellbeing Week is an annual awareness week that highlights the importance of wellbeing in all parts of life including mental, physical, emotional, social, financial, and workplace wellbeing.

Tracy was at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin today and despite the heat, lots of people stopped by to have conversations about su***de prevention.
