👏🏻🦶🏼From Cautious to Creative! 🎨✨

Many children are naturally hesitant to touch messy or unfamiliar textures.

This was a huge milestone for this child🙌🏼 Their Mum shared that they avoid anything sticky, messy or wet and would be reluctant to engage in any of these sensations.
In this weeks session = total immersion with the clay! Moving from sensory avoidance to actively seeking out these experiences is a massive developmental milestone.
Not only can this be fun, these experiences provide:

* Sensory Confidence: The brain learns to process new tactile inputs safely.

* Physical Strength: Squeezing and molding clay builds essential fine motor skills.

* Active Learning: Shaping and building medium teaches spatial awareness, problem-solving, and cause-and-effect.

It takes so much bravery to overcome that initial hesitation. So proud of all the messy, wonderful leaps the children and adults made🤩

Yesterday was the fourth of six Creative Play workshops with and this Summer 🌞 I have taken over from Katie to deliver the last three sessions but replicating the same organic mediums.

The room was filled with giggles and deep concentration as the children and adults rolled, squished, and discovered the wonderful textures of clay, sand, and moss.

We are be back next Thursday - it’s all about wool 🧶 this time!

This series of workshops is inspired by the project Sownd a collaboration by artists and for the 61st di Venezia Art Exhibition. Each session has a material focus - clay, wool, then wood, all materials from the Welsh landscape 🪾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐑

"Wild hearts and creative minds! This term was all about diving into nature, boosting our wellbeing, and learning through pure, joyful fun."

Between Play & Creative Arts Therapy, Made of Magic Creative Mindfulness sessions, Creative Wellbeing in preschool settings and being a Creative Partner with the Arts Council for Wales, I’ve been kept busy!

“Every stitch is a brushstroke of time, turning raw canvas into a living masterpiece.”

This amazing 5 year old came with his Grandmother and Father to our Create and Play session in last week. Look at those amazing stitches, hand/eye coordination and concentration. He went on to create the most wonderful collage inspired by the current exhibition ‘Changing Nations’💫
