And so it starts, a new era of Soundscapes. For the past 18 months we have been systematically honing our skill set so as to accelerate our gong, flumie and singing bowl passion into new territory.

Starting September we enter a new phase in our workshop offering;

Flumieverse 1: our traditional approach to flumie-playing for beginners.

Flumieverse 2: is for advanced flumie-players only, involving deeper exploration and electronic augmentation.

Resonant Realms 1: our Creative Soundscaping workshop, focussing on techniques and skills around Singing Bowls and Gongs - for beginners and Intermediate players.

Resonant Realms 2: an advanced-level Creative Soundscaping involving deeper exploration and electronic augmentation.

So as to maximise the learning experience we have limited each workshop to just 4 people.

Dates are slowly being released, however if you are a small group and have a preferred set of dates, do let us know and we will try to accommodate.

Looking forward to sharing our space with you.

The Singing Bowls of Tibet (1981) - Alain Presencer.

Dr. Alain Presencer's The Singing Bowls of Tibet is a seminal 1981 recording that introduced many Western listeners to the meditative and ritualistic sounds of Himalayan instruments. As a noted "Tibetologist' and musician, Presencer used his collection of bowls, bells and other Himalayan instruments to create a unique, non-electronic soundscape that emphasises their natural overtones and harmonics. It was Alain Presencer and the board of directors at the record company that first coined the term "Singing Bowls" after they searched long and deep for a suitable title for the album.

We were honoured to have had the opportunity to interview Presencer several years ago where he was able to revise some of the myth that was presented on the album sleeve.

Henry Wolff & Nancy Hennings: Innovators of the original "Singing Bowl" Sound in the West........Tibetan Bells - 1972.

For many years the 'life and times' of Henry Wolff and Nancy Hennings (and their friend Drew Gladstone) has been our in-house research project.....very little is known about them in the wider world; but their musical influence and original playing techniques have inspired many, including ourselves here at Silence In Sound.
