I had to be rushed to A&E twice in one week. Long story, but the first visit was pointless after 8 hours of waiting, as the doctor refused to do what my GP hoped they would - scans to diagnose what I was experiencing. Instead, I was asked to get some over-the-counter painkillers and dismissed as having food poisoning. It wasn't. I had intense and crippling pain in my lower back and groin.
So between Tuesday and Thursday, I was curled up and crying in pain. Unable to eat or do anything really. On Thursday night, my entire groin and back were numb. I couldn't feel anything. I spent the night completely sleepless and stressed out from the pain.
I have fibromyalgia, so I am used to widespread, constant pain, and I never take painkillers. I am stoic when it comes to pain, but this was another level altogether.
Anyway, I called 111 in the morning, and they told me to rush to the hospital because the numbness was severe. I was taken seriously this time in A&E, and they did an MRI and blood tests.
I was warned that this new development could mean paralysis, a slipped disc, or something long-term. She prescribed morphine straightaway, and although it took a while to really work, I was grateful for the respite. I lay in the bed, crying for my mother and my guides. "Please don't take away my mobility," I asked.
All in all, it took about 9.5 hours, and finally, the results were in. MRI showed nothing, and blood tests were clear of any infections. Because the scan focused only on my pelvic area, they could not pinpoint where the nerve compression or slipped disc was. So the source of this pain and numbness cannot be determined.
I am viewing this as a positive. I was sent home with four different powerful painkillers and told to have a total rest.
I am so grateful to all my clients over the next two weeks, who have so kindly allowed me to reschedule their appointments.
I did have someone who was unhappy and decided to cancel altogether. I really can't help but being unwell. I prefer not to be sick! 2026 has been a challenge healthwise.
Anyway, sorry to bore you all with my long story, but just so you know why I haven't been posting much.
Lots of love to you all x
