๐Ÿ“ข An update on our patient running programme

Following careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision not to continue funding our patient running programme.

The programme cost the practice ยฃ31,272 each year and, although we recognise how valuable it has been to those taking part, we must ensure our limited NHS funding is directed towards the areas of greatest current need.

We are seeing a significant increase in the number of older patients living with frailty and complex health conditions. We have therefore decided to reinvest this funding into a dedicated Frailty Nurse.

The Frailty Nurse will work proactively with some of our most vulnerable patients to:

โ€ข identify deterioration earlier
โ€ข coordinate care and support
โ€ข help prevent avoidable health crises
โ€ข reduce unnecessary visits to A&E and hospital admissions wherever possible

We understand that this news will be disappointing to members of the running group, and we are grateful to everyone who has supported and participated in the programme.

We continually review our services, priorities and available funding. We will revisit this decision during next yearโ€™s funding review and, if resources allow, consider whether a similar health coaching programme could be offered in the future.

Thank you for your understanding.

๐ŸšจAnnouncement๐Ÿšจ

Please note that all 3 of our surgeries will be closed from 1pm on Wednesday 19th August for mandatory staff training. This months PLT is for Basic Life Support & Suicidal Awareness training.

This training is incredibly important as it ensures that all members of our team, regardless of their role, have the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately in an emergency. Basic Life Support training helps staff recognise and respond to life-threatening situations, including cardiac arrest, while Su***de Awareness training helps us better understand the signs that someone may be struggling and how to respond with compassion, confidence and sensitivity.

By ensuring that all staff take part, we can strengthen our ability to keep our patients, colleagues and wider community safe. These are essential skills that could make a real difference when someone needs help most, and regular training ensures our team is prepared to respond effectively when it matters.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and thank you for your understanding and support as we invest in the training and development of our team. ๐Ÿ’š

Knowing where to go for the right care can help you get the support you need, when you need it. ๐Ÿฅ

We're sharing the NHS Choose Well posters to help you understand which healthcare service is most appropriate for your symptoms and who to contact.

Choosing the right level of care is important because it:

๐Ÿ’ŠHelps you receive the most appropriate treatment.

๐Ÿš‘Reduces unnecessary pressure on emergency services.

๐ŸฉบEnsures urgent and emergency care is available for those who need it most.

Remember, many minor illnesses can be safely managed with self-care at home, supported by advice from your local pharmacist if needed. Knowing when self-care is appropriate can save you time while helping the NHS continue to provide timely care for everyone.

Take a moment to look through the NHS Choose Well posters and keep them handy, you never know when they might be useful for you or your family. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

Self Care Tips for Constipation and Heartburn

๐Ÿ’Š Did you know? In 2025/26, NHS Kent and Medway spent over ยฃ2 million on medicines used to treat diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and heartburn.

Many medicines used to treat these common conditions can be bought without a prescription from your local pharmacy, supermarket or convenience store.

Choosing to self-care and purchase over-the-counter medicines, where appropriate, helps the NHS make the best use of its resources, ensuring healthcare services are available for those who need them most.

Take a look at our self-care tips below to help you manage constipation and heartburn with confidence.

โš ๏ธ Measles Awareness โš ๏ธ

We have been informed that 2 cases of measles have been confirmed in the Hawkhurst area, so we'd like to remind everyone to be aware of the signs and symptoms and help reduce the spread of infection.

Symptoms of measles include:
๐Ÿค’ A high temperature (fever)
๐Ÿคง A runny or blocked nose
๐Ÿ˜ท A cough
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Sore, red, watery eyes
๐Ÿ”ด Small white spots inside the mouth
๐ŸŒธ A red or brown blotchy rash that usually starts on the face before spreading to the rest of the body

Measles is highly contagious and can spread easily through coughing and sneezing.

If you or your child develop symptoms of measles:

โ€ข Stay at home and avoid contact with others.
โ€ข Do not attend the GP surgery without contacting us first.
โ€ข Please call the practice or submit an Anima request for advice.

This helps us protect other patients, particularly babies, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems.

๐Ÿ’‰ The best protection against measles is the MMRV (Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella) vaccine. Two doses provide excellent protection and help prevent outbreaks within our community. If you or your child have missed either dose, it's never too late to catch up.

If you're unsure whether you or your child are fully vaccinated, check your NHS app or contact the practice and request to speak to one of our Vaccine Champions!

Together, we can help protect our community and reduce the spread of measles. โค๏ธ
