✨ What happens behind the scenes in Occupational Therapy? ✨
When families see us, they often see the assessments, therapy sessions, play, and practical strategies. But there’s a huge amount of work happening behind the scenes too.
At The Great Little OT Practice, our work doesn’t stop when a session ends. We spend many hours:
📋 Scoring and importantly interpreting standardised assessments such as the DASH, Movement ABC, TVPS, Beery VMI and AHA
📝 Writing detailed reports that help families, schools and other professionals understand a child’s strengths and needs
🏫 Contributing to EHCP assessments and reviews
💺 Researching and sourcing equipment, obtaining quotes and ensuring recommendations are appropriate and evidence-based
✉️ Writing letters of recommendation to support access to services, resources and funding
🤝 Liaising with schools, nurseries and multidisciplinary teams
🔍 Analysing information and translating assessment findings into practical, meaningful recommendations that make a difference in everyday life
While much of this work happens away from the therapy room, it’s a vital part of helping children achieve their goals and ensuring families receive the support they need.
Occupational therapy is so much more than what happens in a session, it’s the careful clinical reasoning, planning and advocacy that happens behind the scenes that helps create lasting change.
