🔥☀️ As temperatures soar during this heatwave, let's remember our vulnerable loved ones at home. 🏡❤️

Extreme heat can be especially challenging for the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke become real concerns.

Here are a few tips to help protect those most at risk:

1. **Stay Hydrated**: Encourage frequent water intake. Dehydration can sneak up quickly in the heat.

2. **Cool Spaces**: Ensure there's access to air-conditioned or well-ventilated areas.

3. **Limit Outdoor Time**: Especially during peak heat hours, advise staying indoors.

4. **Light Clothing**: Opt for loose, light-colored clothing to stay cool.

5. **Check-Ins**: Regularly check on vulnerable neighbors or relatives to ensure their well-being.

Sadly some of our clients pass away and end of life care can be very difficult for our staff, clients and their families. This message from a family member of one of our clients, sent to our staff, brings a small tear.

"I have only praise for your staff in the care of my mum, but in particular Blessing who my mum loved to hear sing, Rachel, Anna, who my mum trusted, and especially Barbara who my mum was so fond of & looked forward to seeing. My mum didn’t smile often latterly when she was in a lot of discomfort, but she was always so pleased to see Barbara who was so gentle & knew exactly how she liked things done.

I can't find enough words or the right words to say ’thank you’ enough for the care my mum was given by Mercia. I am so grateful that she was able to be at home & to pass away here, which was always her wish. Anna took great care in explaining to me the process, which was new to me as I was totally incapable of coping when my Dad was ill & I was away when he passed. Anna was kind, gentle, thorough, no messing, straight up & clear - I couldn’t have wished for anything better, & because I was well-informed it made it much easier to cope. The way Anna looked after my mum when she had passed, and how she supported me was just wonderful. She gave my mum dignity & respect & I couldn’t have asked for more - & that memory will be with me forever….. I am so grateful for her care & kindness. I was also so pleased that Rachel, Barbara & Anna were able to come to my mum’s funeral to say ‘goodbye’ - that would have meant a lot to my mum too.

You have chosen the most wonderful staff & your ‘clients’ or ‘patients’, are extremely fortunate. Thank you for finding such a wonderful team & I hope Mercia goes from strength to strength so that many more may have the joy of such care when they are unwell."

We have our first Care Quality Commission inspection today, and it's been a great process so far. Lots of supportive feedback already, and it will be good to have an objective assessment of our service provision.
