πŸ’™ Our team become Dementia Friends πŸ’™

On Thursday afternoon, the practice held a half-day closure. During this time, our clinical team attended a session led by our GP, Dr Helen Martin, while our administrative team welcomed Dave, a Dementia Friends Ambassador from the Alzheimer's Society.

We are very grateful for the sessions delivered, as both teams gained valuable knowledge relevant to their roles within the practice.

During the session, our team learned five key messages from the Alzheimer's Society:
1. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing.
2. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain.
3. Dementia is not just about losing your memory.
4. There is more to a person than the dementia.
5. A little understanding makes a big difference.

If you are affected by dementia, concerned about a potential diagnosis, or would like to learn more, you can contact the Alzheimer's Society on 0333 150 3456, email [email protected], or visit https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/getsupport.

After nearly 14 years at the practice, we say a very fond farewell to Lisa, whose contribution has shaped so much of what we do.

Lisa joined us from the cytology labs and quickly became an essential part of our secretarial team. Her work touched every part of the patient journey, from referring patients to community or secondary care, chasing appointments or investigations, managing practice emails, or filing cytology reports and recalling patients for cervical screening, she carried out every task with professionalism and genuine care for every patient.

From the clinical team to the admin team, we will all miss having her around the practice. Her warmth, bright smile, dedication, and constant willingness to help, paired with her calm and steady presence, made a difference every single day.

We all wish the very best in your new workplace, Lisa. Enjoy the slower pace and the extra time with your family. You deserve it.

At Urban Village Medical Practice we believe sexual health is an important part of overall health and wellbeing, and everyone should feel able to access support without stigma or embarrassment.

We are one of the only practices to offer confidential sexual health screening, advice and support as part of our routine care for patients. This includes testing for sexually transmitted infections, guidance around symptoms or concerns, and help accessing treatment or further specialist support where needed.

Recent national reporting has highlighted the importance of improving awareness and access to sexual health services across communities, particularly around prevention, early diagnosis and reducing long term health complications.

Our aim is simple: to make accessing care feel safe, supportive and straightforward.

If you have concerns about your sexual health, please do reach out to the team, you can make a routine appointment here https://uvmp.co.uk/form/get-help-for-any-health-problem/

πŸ’™ Farewell & Best Wishes, Sophie! πŸ’™

Yesterday we said goodbye to Sophie, who joined us in January 2025 as a Patient Service Advisor and has been a truly valued member of our team ever since.

Sophie has always brought kindness, professionalism and a warm, polite approach to everything she does, making a positive impact on both colleagues and patients alike. Alongside her role with us, she had been working hard to complete her Master’s degree, an incredible achievement we’re all so proud of.

As Sophie now moves on to begin her new career, we want to thank her for all her hard work and dedication, and wish her every success and happiness for the future.
You will be greatly missed, Sophie! 🌟

Our Practice Manager Kay Keane FRSA MIGPM was part of an expert panel at The King's Fund conference this week. The event was to discuss Health Inequalities with Kay talking about the important role that non clinical staff undertake supporting patients to access healthcare.

Kay talked about the passion and dedication that all the team show at the practice helping patients to navigate complicated systems and services and get the right care in the right place at the right time.

As she is also the Chair of The Institute of General Practice Management she can also draw on the experience of other practices and organisations and be a voice for the non clinical teams that are the heart and soul of general practice.
