Weβre incredibly proud to be part of Dollyβs legacy here at Monton, helping our youngest patients discover a love of reading.
Get in touch if you have a child under 5 registered at Monton & would like them to join our imagination library.
Yesterday the world lost a true icon π
Today feels like the perfect moment to celebrate something truly special happening right here in our community.
Monton Medical Centre is home to one of the largest Imagination Library programmes in region and actually the inspiration for
Salford Labourβs manifesto pledge and pilot helping to put books into the hands of local children, giving families the opportunity to share the joy of reading from the very earliest years.
Because every child deserves a story
π Because every child deserves to dream
β€οΈ And because the greatest legacy we can leave is helping the next generation imagine a brighter future
The Imagination Library was founded by the remarkable Dolly Parton (who sadly passed away yesterday) whose legacy extends far beyond music.
Inspired by her father Robert Lee Parton who never learned to read or write despite being one of the smartest people she knew, Dolly set out to ensure that future generations would have opportunities he never had.
Since 1995, the Imagination Library has gifted more than 300 million books to children around the world. Every month, millions of young people receive a free book through their letterbox, opening doors to adventure, learning and possibility.
Dolly often said that the seeds of dreams are found in books. She understood that something as simple as a story can change a child's future. Research continues to show that children enrolled in the programme are significantly more likely to be read to regularly, strengthening literacy skills, confidence and family bonds.
That is why the work being done at Monton Medical Centre & indeed Salford Labour matters so much.
Every book distributed is more than pages and pictures. It is an investment in imagination. It is a chance for a child to discover new worlds, develop a love of learning and build the foundations for lifelong success.
As a community we should be incredibly proud that Monton Medical Centre has grown this programme into the one of the largest in the region. It is a testament to the dedication of the staff, families and partners who believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life.
Thank you Dolly and to all those involved in bringing the joy of imagination to our community β€οΈ
