Hypnosis Isn't Losing Control – It's Taking It Back

One of the biggest myths about hypnosis is that someone can make you do something against your will.

The truth is quite the opposite.

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused relaxation. It's similar to those moments when you're completely absorbed in a good book, a film or even driving a familiar route and suddenly realising you've arrived.

How much energy have you spent this week worrying about things that haven't happened?

Our minds are wonderful problem-solvers, but they can also become experts at creating worst-case scenarios.

Before you know it, you're carrying stress from conversations that haven't taken place, problems that don't exist and situations that may never happen.

Today, pause for a moment and ask yourself:

"What is actually true right now?"

Right now, are you safe?

Right now, do you have everything you need for this moment?

Right now, is the situation as bad as your mind is suggesting?

Bringing your attention back to the present moment can reduce anxiety and help you regain a sense of calm and control.

The present is where life happens.

Not in yesterday.

Not in tomorrow.

Right here.

The Story We Keep Telling Ourselves

As a therapist, one of the things I listen for isn't just what people say.
It's what they repeatedly say.

"I've always been anxious."
"I've never had confidence."
"I'm just one of those people."

What if that isn't who you are?

What if that's simply a story you've repeated so many times that it now feels like the truth?

Your subconscious mind learns through repetition.
If you tell yourself every day that you're nervous, your mind starts looking for evidence to support that belief.

If you tell yourself you're capable, resilient and learning, it starts looking for evidence of that too.

Be careful what story you tell yourself.
Your mind is always listening.
