Stop saying ‘I just have an addictive personality.’

You’ve got to dig deeper.

When you play the ‘addictive personality’ card, you’re missing a big part of the picture.

It’s like putting a plaster on a wound without cleaning it first.

Sure, personality traits play a role, but addiction isn’t just about personality.

It’s about:

- Your behaviour
- Your environment
- Your capabilities
- Your values
- Your beliefs
- Your identity
- Your purpose

Think about it.

When you label yourself with ‘an addictive personality,’ you’re not giving yourself a chance to understand the real reasons behind your behaviours.

Are you stressed?
Are you dealing with unresolved past traumas?
Are there pressures in your life pushing you towards certain behaviours?

I see this all the time in my work as an addiction therapist & recovery coach.

It’s about understanding the whole story, not just a part of it.

The moment you stop using this label as an excuse and start exploring the deeper causes, real change begins.

PS. Speaking of change… there are 5 days before class #1 of my group coaching program launches. 4 spaces left. Message me to find out how you can join the movement.

My #1 goal for clients:

Give them permission to be themselves.

Humans yearn for authenticity.

Yet, pressures to conform are huge.

Like a weight that traps you, creating:

- Fear
- Anxiety
- Disconnection

Addiction lives here.

If your life is a lie, you’ll run away from it.

Drugs, alcohol, gambling, p**n.

Whatever your thing is, it’s an escape.

Being true to yourself means:

- Taking risks
- Embracing vulnerability
- Standing up for what 𝗬𝗢𝗨 believe in

The idea of this is frightening to many.

But the world needs you to be you.

Raw, honest, and unfiltered.

Not easy, but essential.

You do this by unpacking the years of emotional baggage you've refused to acknowledge.

The lies you've told, the people you've wronged.

Forgiving the people who have hurt you.

Once you arrive at self-acceptance.

Addiction has no place.

Exciting, right?

7 simple steps to overcoming addiction:

1. Take a stand:
↳ Say NO to addiction. It's non-negotiable.

2. Face the fear:
↳ Sobriety isn't a life sentence. It's liberation.

3. Tough love:
↳ Your addiction isn't your comfort. It's your cage.

4. Brutal honesty:
↳ No more lies. To others, to yourself.

5. Take the power back:
↳ You control the addiction. Not vice versa.

6. Be selfish:
↳ Prioritise freedom above everything else.

7. Relentless resilience:
↳ Relapses aren't setbacks. They're lessons.

Have I missed anything?

When 9-to-5 becomes 9-to-9, addiction clocks in.

Remember the 'standard' 8-hour workday?

In recruitment, I felt the shift.

A toxic one.

Leave on time, you're met with disapproval.

As the office hours stretch, well-being is destroyed.

Longer hours aren't just about more work.

They're the silent bell for addiction.

It starts small...

A drink to unwind.

A pill to sleep.

But the overtime turns these into crutches.

Next thing you know your taking drugs 2-3 times per week wondering where it all went so wrong...

If this resonates, time to wake up.

Countless opportunities await where your well-being is valued and respected.

Work smarter, live healthier, and find an employer who honours your boundaries.

Because when work knows no bounds, neither does addiction.

🔓 P.S. Next week, I'm opening my doors for three exclusive 15-minute consultations - completely free. If you're ready for transformative insights with zero barriers, send me a message with "𝟭𝟱". Spots are limited, so let's connect.

Take control of your behaviour with reset processes—because who doesn't love a good system reboot?

A reset process is a program that typically runs for 30, 60, or 90 days.

Think of it like a trial subscription to a better you!

In my experience, a 90-day program is the most effective, as it provides a longer-term perspective and requires you to learn, grow, and adapt over a longer period of time.

Plus, it's long enough to forget your old ways but short enough to remember your birthday.

By setting a 90-day goal, the finish line is out of sight, which can be a good thing (unless you're in a marathon).

It encourages you to focus on the process of change rather than just reaching the finish line, kind of like enjoying the journey instead of just waiting for the destination.

This can lead to more meaningful and lasting results as you're given the time and space to develop new habits, skills, and perspectives.

Throughout a 90-day reset process, you can expect to work to address underlying issues that may be contributing to your challenges.

This may involve developing new coping strategies, exploring new ways of thinking and behaving, and building a strong support network.

At the end of the 90 days, you can reflect on how far you have come and celebrate your accomplishments.

You can also take the skills and insights you've learned and apply them to other areas of your life, helping you build a stronger foundation for long-term success.

Overall, a 90-day reset process can be a powerful tool for individuals who are looking to make meaningful changes in their lives.

By committing to a longer-term program, you're given the time and space you need to grow, learn, and adapt, leading to more sustainable and lasting change.

So, buckle up and enjoy the ride towards a life free from addiction!

Shame

Shame can be an insidious and debilitating emotion, especially for those struggling with addiction

It can make you feel isolated, unworthy, and trapped in a cycle of self-destructive behaviour.

But the critical thing to remember is that you are not alone, and shame does not have to define you.

Embracing the journey towards freedom can help you shed the shackles of shame and become the person you've always wanted to be.

There is hope. Just as the first light of dawn begins to break through the darkness, so too can you find the courage and strength to embark on your journey towards freedom.

Gradually, the darkness will begin to recede.

With each step you take towards recovery, the weight of shame will grow lighter, and the person you want to be will start to emerge.

You'll begin to recognise your innate resilience, your capacity for growth, and your ability to overcome even the most daunting obstacles.

Finally, the day will come when you break free, finding yourself in a place where shame has no place to hide.

You will have transformed yourself through the journey to freedom, emerging with newfound confidence, self-compassion, and a strong sense of identity.

The journey may be extended and fraught with challenges, but remember…

You are NOT alone, and you ARE worth fighting for.

Therapy can help you shed the shame that has burdened you for so long and become the person you've always wanted to be.

Embrace the journey, and let the healing process begin.

You are more than your addiction

If you're struggling with addiction, it's time to take a step back and consider this: your addiction is not the problem

Yes, it can cause negative consequences and be extremely challenging to overcome, but it is not the root cause of your struggles

The true issue lies in the connection that you have lost with yourself

Addiction often arises when we feel disconnected from our true selves and turn to substances or behaviours to fill that void

Whether it's a lack of self-love, unresolved emotional pain, or a sense of purposelessness, these underlying issues are what drive us towards addictive behaviours

But the great news is that you can take control of your life by focusing on reconnecting with yourself

You can begin to heal and overcome your addiction by getting in touch with your emotions, practising self-care, finding healthy outlets for stress & anxiety, and exploring new hobbies and interests that bring you joy

You have the power to break free from its grip and rediscover your true self

It won't be easy, but with the proper support and mindset, you can do it

So don't give up hope, and know that there are resources and people available to help you on your journey towards freedom

You deserve to live a fulfilling and joyful life, and with the right tools and mindset, you can achieve it

Take the first step towards your new life today
