Depression never means one is weak, inadequate, inferior or that you are responsible and your fault. It's a natural response to unmet needs, early life experiences, trauma, adversity, filling unfulfilled, loss and grief...see this and that it does not say anything about you but rather what happened to you or is happening to you.
It doesn't mean you should "man up", "pull your socks up", just "thinking positive"...it means you have been wounded psychologically. Never be ashamed and never let anyone shame you.
Nobody gets shamed when they come down with a physical issue, the same our bodies and minds are reacting to something that needs attention and addressing when we are and feel depressed.
Evolution may have designed depression as a kind of protection when we are in a high stress environment - like a safety switch or fuse on an electrical circuit that trips out if it is overloaded.
Depression is a natural occurrence to things, what isn't natural is the stigma and some of the damaging responses, comments and beliefs attached to it and the toxic gender stereotypes that shame men.
