🎤 Speaker Spotlight

We're pleased to welcome Dr Safwaan Adam, clinical lead for our Managing Endocrine Complications Study Day.

Safwaan graduated from the University of Cape Town before completing postgraduate training in South Africa and New Zealand, then specialty training in general medicine and endocrinology in the Northwest of England. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester, where his research examined the metabolic effects of obesity and associated cardiovascular disease risk.

He maintains an active clinical research portfolio in endocrinology, with a particular interest in using large real-world clinical outcome datasets to inform practice. His work has led to a number of publications and awards.

🎤 Speaker Spotlight

We're pleased to welcome Dr Jamie Weaver, clinical lead for our Managing Acute Oncology Study Day.

Jamie is an Consultant in Medical Oncology | Pan Tumour Late Phase Research Lead & Acute Oncology Specialist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Manchester's Division of Cancer Sciences, currently working within Professor David Wedge's group investigating the somatic changes that drive pre-cancerous lesions toward invasive malignancy.

He completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge in 2015, undertaking a PhD alongside Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald on the genetic changes underlying oesophageal adenocarcinoma. He joined The Christie as a Medical Oncology trainee in 2017 and was awarded his academic clinical lectureship in 2020.

How can we improve the recognition and management of endocrine complications in oncology?

How do we make timely decisions for acutely unwell oncology patients?

Join our Managing Acute Oncology: Toxicities, Complications and Challenges study day on Monday 28 September 2026.

This hybrid study day will explore practical approaches to assessment, decision-making and the management of complex presentations in acute oncology.

Sessions will cover recognising the acutely deteriorating oncology patient, cancer prognosis in the era of modern SACT, frailty, breast cancer presentations, life-threatening immunotherapy toxicities, antibody-drug conjugate adverse events, Hospital at Home and ambulatory pathways.

The day will close with a case-based acute oncology panel discussion, bringing key learning into practice.

How can we better support people living with complex cancer pain?

Our Modern Cancer Pain Management Study Day will explore practical approaches to cancer pain assessment, treatment and support, with a focus on personalised, multimodal care.

Taking place on Friday 26 February 2027, this hybrid event brings together expertise from pain medicine, palliative care, pharmacy, nursing and integrative oncology.

Sessions will cover areas including pain assessment, frailty, acute pain, oral pain, topical remedies, newer analgesics, cannabis-based medicines, radiotherapy-induced insufficiency fractures, self-management and complex case discussions.

Designed for healthcare professionals involved in cancer care, the day will support learning that can be applied across clinical settings.

What does effective care for patients with brain metastases look like?

The agenda is now available for our Brain Metastases Study Day 🧠

Taking place on Thursday 5 November 2026, this hybrid study day will support healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care of patients with brain metastases.

Sessions will explore diagnostic pathways, treatment complications, epilepsy management, rehabilitation, survivorship, end of life care and complex case discussion.
