What does air pollution have to do with cancer?
Here on  and in the midst of , Cancer Origins Group Leader William Hill explores how we're studying the impacts of air pollution on our bodies.

By examining how air pollution influences our cells and the signs of any change, we hope to be able to identify the people most at risk of cancer, and develop treatments that prevent their cancer before it starts!

Major funding news! is investing an additional £6m a year in our Institute's annual funding, a more than 50% increase! 🎉
This new funding will create up to 100 new jobs at our Institute and allow us to procure and develop cutting-edge technologies for our already powerful core facilities.

We're starting this expansion right now, with immediate recruitment commencing for leaders of three new research groups at our Institute:

🩺 Clinician Scientist

The next couple of years are going to see a massive expansion in Manchester's cancer research power as our Institute grows and and we embark on new collaborations with , and the Cancer Research UK National Biomarker Centre under the umbrella of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre. These rich partnerships enable all of our work.

The of World Cancer Day is - is more than just a medical diagnosis – it’s a deeply personal matter. Behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story – stories of grief, pain, healing, resilience, love and more.

What better way to unite right here in , than with some uplifting music to bring us together in a place where thousands of people are treated each year at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, where patients and their families receive support and care at Maggie's Manchester, and where hundreds of researchers, medics, clinical staff and research students work Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, in the Cancer Research UK National Biomarker Centre, in the Division of Cancer Sciences The University of Manchester, and many other places to understand and treat .

We're looking forward to welcoming the Loose Change Buskers on Wednesday 4th February, which is World Cancer Day.

The Loose Change Buskers will be fundraising for Cancer Research UK - since 2007 they've raised over £800,000 for . In 2015 they won the Flame of Hope from Cancer Research UK and in 2016 were awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for support for Cancer Research UK and community work.

They'll be joining us here in in to help us mark , so if you live nearby do pop by the Oglesby Cancer Research Building between about 11am and 2pm to hear some uplifting music that's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face - and to donate your loose change that will go to support cancer research.
