The Counselling and Family Centre

The Counselling and Family Centre CFC - by your side 'for whatever life throws at you'. Counselling is for anything that is troubling you.

We offer counselling from the age of 5 onward, as well as learning, support groups, and training for well-being in the work place. We can help you to make better sense of what’s happening in your life – all you need to do is pick up the phone, email or call in at the Centre

You are not alone – in Britain each year around 1 in 4 of us will experience emotional and mental health problems

We offer

counselling to adult individuals, couples, families, and to children and young people from 5 years old. Additionally we provide support for families affected by addiction and parents affected by pregnancy and birth issues. Beyond counselling we provide self improvement courses and workshops for all, and training workshops for counsellors and health professionals. We have helped people through loss and bereavement, anxiety and stress, panic attacks, low self esteem, relationship problems, redundancy, domestic violence and abuse, depression and low mood……and many, many more problems. Let us help you to discover more about yourself and your inner strengths, sort out your needs and priorities, make decisions, accept what can and cannot be changed, find more effective ways of coping and decide what’s really important for you – you will never be judged or criticised.

Trustee Recruitment
Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025, CFC Altrincham is looking ahead to the future with a renewed vision, built on five decades of experience supporting individuals, families and communities.
These are both exciting and challenging times. Demand for our services continues to grow, reflecting the quality and impact of our work, while the financial environment across the VCSE sector remains increasingly challenging.
Following the retirement of two long-serving trustees, we are seeking to strengthen our Board by welcoming new trustees with experience in fundraising, business engagement, healthcare, and human resources.
We would also be delighted to hear from individuals with other skills, expertise or perspectives that could help us achieve our mission. If you believe you can contribute to an organisation that provides counselling services and delivers counselling training, we would love to hear from you.
Human Resources Trustee
Could you help us support the people who make our work possible?
CFC Altrincham's services are delivered by a dedicated team of employed and self-employed counsellors, supported by staff and volunteers who are committed to making a difference in people's lives.
Together, they support hundreds of individuals each year, including children and young people in schools, people on probation, individuals experiencing complex mental health challenges, and many others facing difficult periods in their lives.
We are seeking a trustee with professional Human Resources experience to help ensure that our people policies, practices and culture continue to reflect best practice and support the long-term success of the organisation.
Your expertise will help us maintain a strong, supportive and well-governed organisation for both our workforce and the communities we serve.
We welcome applications from all corners of the community, and previous trustee experience is not required. We will provide support and training; you will bring your skills, ideas, energy and enthusiasm.

Summer often gives us something we don't always have during the rest of the year... a little more time.

Time for slower mornings. Longer evenings. Car journeys. Walks. Ice creams. Conversations that don't need to be rushed.

Children don't always open up when we ask, "How was your day?" Sometimes the answer is simply, "Fine."

But changing the question can change the conversation.

Asking, "What made you smile today?" encourages children to pause, reflect and share a moment that mattered to them, however small.

It might be a game they played, a funny joke, an unexpected act of kindness or simply seeing someone they love.

Those little moments are often the ones that stay with us.

This August, we're sharing a series of simple questions designed to help families connect, one conversation at a time.

Why not ask someone this question today?

Fundraising Trustee
Could you help us raise the funds that change lives?
Every year, CFC Altrincham provides hundreds of people with access to counselling and emotional support at times of significant need. Demand for our services continues to grow, and with additional income we could reach even more people across our communities.
The charity sector is changing rapidly. As grant funding becomes increasingly competitive, successful organisations must diversify their income streams and develop new approaches to fundraising.
CFC Altrincham is looking to strengthen its Board with a trustee who has skills or experience in fundraising. We have set ourselves an ambitious goal of raising £100,000 over the coming year and are seeking someone who can help us shape and support that journey.
Whether your experience comes from the charity, public or private sector, we would love to hear from you.
We welcome applications from all corners of the community, and previous trustee experience is not required. We will provide support and training; you will bring your skills, ideas, energy and enthusiasm.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with saying “yes” to something that feels impossible.
Meet Nuria and Lisa.
Together, they’re taking on incredible challenges to raise vital funds for The Counselling and Family Centre. From climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to trekking across Costa Rica, every step they take is helping us continue to provide counselling and support for children, adults, couples and families when they need it most.
Behind every fundraiser is a simple reason: making sure nobody has to face life’s challenges alone.
We’ll be following their journeys over the coming months, sharing updates, celebrating milestones and cheering them on every step of the way.
If you’d like to support Nuria and Lisa or find out more about our fundraising event this October, visit our website or keep an eye on our social channels.
Thank you to both of them for taking on these amazing challenges in support of CFC. We’re incredibly grateful. Out just giving link@for them both is here https://rb.gy/3brop3

Healthcare Trustee
Could you help us bridge the gap between rising demand and access to mental health support?
Demand for counselling continues to grow, while statutory services face increasing pressure. As a result, many people struggle to access support at the point they need it most.
CFC Altrincham provides counselling to hundreds of people every year and works alongside a range of partners to improve access to emotional wellbeing support in our communities.
We are seeking a trustee who is a senior professional within the NHS, healthcare, social care or a related sector. We are looking for someone who understands both the challenges and opportunities within the current health landscape and can help us identify innovative ways to work alongside statutory services.
Your expertise could play an important role in helping us increase our reach and impact for the people who rely on our services.
We welcome applications from all corners of the community, and previous trustee experience is not required. We will provide support and training; you will bring your skills, ideas, energy and enthusiasm.

Not every worry is spoken out loud.

As the new school year gets closer, some children may be wondering...

"Will I make friends?"

"What if I get lost?"

"What if the work is too hard?"

"What if everyone else knows what they're doing?"

Often, these thoughts stay inside because children don't want to worry the adults around them, or they don't quite know how to put them into words.

A simple conversation can make a big difference.

Instead of asking, "Are you worried about school?", try asking:

• What are you looking forward to?
• Is there anything you're wondering about?
• What would help you feel a little more ready?

Sometimes, children don't need us to solve every worry. They just need to know they don't have to carry them on their own.

At CFC, we're here to support children and families through every stage of life's transitions.
